I'm a casual (meaning I suck at them) fighting game fan who has a particular interest in retro 2D fighters. My primary interest is Capcom titles but lately I have been branching out into SNK and others. I had really enjoyed the QUByte rerelease of the Breakers Collection so I decided to give this game a chance as well. The fact that it is unofficially tied into the old Double Dragon series also was a plus. Having put a couple hours into it, I have to say I like it. The character designs are cool and have well differentiated fighting styles. Honestly, I like them better than some of the designs in KOF, although I am sure some people will consider that heresy. Of course, being a Playmore game (SNK), ROTD will look and feel a bit familiar to fans of KOF, although certainly they are their own games. One of the interesting features of ROTD is that it is a tag team game, which makes it feel a bit different from the rest of the SNK catalog. At 15, the roster is not huge by the standards of 2002 fighting games, but it is enough to make the game feel complete and all the characters have their own distinct identity. The music is an eclectic mix an reasonably memorable. If nothing else, it does stand out for being different than most fighting game music. The backgrounds are passable, but nothing amazing. The only complaint I have so far is that I have been unable to defeat the final boss, but that is not surprising given the reputation of SNK bosses. All in all, a worthwhile game for retro fighting game fans, at least from my "casual" perspective. I will leave it to the diehard fighting game experts to comment on the deeper aspects of the gameplay.

I CANNOT believe that this game is suddenly widely available!!! There were only like two different arcade machines around the places I moved to and from back in the day, and it was always a joy when I got to play it.
This is one of the best fighting games out there give it a try please.
For achievement whores this game is fully completeable offline and it wasn't all that hard on top of it (compared to the breakers revenge collection also by q-bites).
Oh and ¡¡¡VIVA MÉXICO CABRONES!!!

Never played the original, but the art and game play are pretty legit, and getting thrashed by the CPU a few times before heading off to bed was fun.
Probably, worth checking out if you're into fighters, and want to pick up something off the beaten path!

Really good port of an underrated classic.
Game plays really well. The netcode is incredible (0 lag when playing against friends from overseas). No crossplay unfortunately, but it's not that big a deal.
I will complain until my last breath about not having a port of Matrimelee on Steam (seriously, we need a Goketsuji collection), but I'll happily take this. Too bad they couldn't attach the Double Dragon license to this; imo it would definitely be a worthy entry in that franchise.
Highly recommended.

Excellent port. Tons of great quality of life additions to a classic game. The rollback netcode works like a charm too. Played a friend of mine in SoCal all the way from my apartment in Tokyo. Gameplay was buttery smooth. Hats off the the people over at QUByte Interactive for their hard work.

Great classic fighting game from the arcade era. It plays kinda like The King of Fighters, but with a few twists like breakable walls and rush combos.
Trivia
This game was actually an attempt of making a sequel to the fighting game Double Dragon, released for the NeoGeo, but unfortunately the devs didnt manage to get the "Double Dragon" licence, so they had to kinda change a lot of stuff, like character design of the main chars like Jimmy and Billy in order to diferentiate from the Double Dragon IP and therefore dont get sued when releasing this game..
The Port
Anyways, this new port is pretty good and includes some new stuff, for example the two bosses, Abubo and Johann, are playable in most of the game modes without the usual bugs and glitches they had in previous versions of the game. Also it seems like the artificial intelligence of the cpu fighters has been improved somehow, omong other things.
Conclusion
Overall, its a pretty solid fighter, only problem is that the online is pretty much dead lolz
A must have for fans of classic fighting games
