poor balance makes this pretty hard for me to enjoy, it's not like I don't like word games, no idea why this is tagged as a roguelite because there's no metaprogression beyond "ooh look you unlocked a new board", and honestly that's my biggest gripe with it, the metaprogression is practically nonexistent, I thought I was gonna love those game and have hours upon hours of fun with it, but sadly it wasn't meant to be, and there's not even any settings to change the gameplay and make it suit you better if you think "this is too punishing", the entire game is about luck of the draw more than anything, even the shops you have to hope you get a good draw, and the ability to reroll the shop doesn't change that I think this game has a wealth of potential, but sadly I can't recommend this to the average player as it is

Playtime: 468 minutes

I'm not going to beat around the bush, the game is simply too hard and not in a way where you can get better at it with practice. After 7 hours, I managed to beat only the easiest board on the easiest difficulty, and I was using advanced strategies with positioning tiles and playing multiple words in one turn, I know how to manage item synergies from other similar games, etc., but the resources are too scarce to successfully develop in any direction, the bosses are too punishing, and there is no meta-game that could change it in the long run. If a typical Balatro run ends with you having swapped half of your jokers and upgraded the rest along with half of your deck in one way or another, in this game, your run ends with maybe one item swapped and being lucky that upgraded tiles didn't land too far away from the centre of the board. It's clearly not just me because only ~30% of people got the achievement for beating the novice. Buy this game only you're an absolute wordsmith who is also a glutton for punishment.
