its actually a really fun game. i expected it to be kinda shitty but i ended up really enjoying it. the raid mode is also really fun (you can make wesker twerk!)
i dont think the game is perfect, it has a few flaws (it stutters like a bitch in some sections), but its a really fun game to play!
i give it a 8.5/10

Story mode is more survival orientated, while raid mode is a very fun grinding mode with new events.

I was really disappointed with "Resident Evil Revelations 2." The biggest issue is the episodic format. Having to pay for each episode separately feels like a cash grab, and it ruins the flow of the story. It’s frustrating to get invested, only to be hit with a paywall. The gameplay itself is average at best, with outdated graphics and clunky controls. If it weren’t for the annoying payment model, it might have been a decent experience. But as it stands, it’s hard to recommend.

Zombies don’t sleep. Have you ever wonder if making so many spin off makes the original thing kinda water down. Well here we are with a spin off game that really does not add anything new to the series just feels like a parity of itself. Some one at Capcom was like “hey guys you know what would be fun for all those gamers out there who want to play with their friends like RE 5 or 6 ?We should make the 2nd player competently useless and give them no weapons” everyone at the office agreed. You play 2 campaigns that cross together where you drag around a CPU or your friend who can’t do anything out point or crawl to small places. It’s like they thought RE 0 was not annoying enough with babysitting a useful partner with a gun. It also does not help the game puts in invisible enemies that can only be seen only by the little girl character, so the person with the gun has no idea how to kill them because pointing in the air is not a good aim mechanic. That’s not the fact the little girl is only play able in the Barry story line not the Claire one. If you feel like dragging a friend around for 8 hours for a story that is just filler than be my guest. It’s just not worth losing your sleep for them zombies. 5/10

A good entry in the Resident Evil series. The main story is done quite well and the ability to change what happens in the other playable characters story is very unique. The raid mode however is VERY well done. The big list of characters to play from and trying to get even one to level 100 will take you ages, but in a good way! I hope raid mode comes back in future RE games.

Playing it for the first time I wasn't sure what to expect since I felt the RE games in this era had some funky features. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised! This one holds up way better than I expected and had me engaged start to finish. I'm not the biggest fan of the swap mechanic where you're unarmed character is also the one who finds the best loot, especially since as a loot hound I found myself playing unarmed much of the game, but they have some mechanics (crowbar FTW) to alleviate that, so it surprisingly didn't really diminish my enjoyment! I will definitely be looking forward to playing this whenever I do RE franchise replays, and I absolutely need more Burtons in my RE games now.

Episodic games were once a trend, allowing smaller studios to finance projects that would otherwise be impossible. Typically, these games focus on storytelling rather than gameplay. However, Capcom has taken a different approach with Resident Evil Revelations 2, balancing story and gameplay in an engaging way.
Originally exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS in 2012, Resident Evil Revelations aimed to blend classic and modern elements of the franchise. Revelations 2 continues this trend, offering a mix of action, exploration, and horror. The game is structured into four main episodes, each split into two parts, along with two additional episodes introducing new mechanics.
The narrative follows two duos: Claire Redfield and Moira Burton, who are kidnapped and imprisoned, and Barry Burton, who searches for his daughter with the help of Natalia Korda, a mysterious girl with special abilities. The story, set between Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6, is well-paced, offering surprises and classic horror moments.
Gameplay encourages cooperation, either through AI or local co-op, with one character focused on combat and the other on support. While not overly action-packed, the game requires strategic shooting and resource management. Some environments enhance the horror experience, with tense encounters and invisible enemies adding suspense.
Beyond the main campaign, the Raid Mode provides an action-focused experience with RPG-like progression, multiple characters, and online co-op. Though it includes microtransactions, they are not essential. The game also offers collectibles, unlockables, and multiple endings, increasing replayability.
Visually, the game is reminiscent of old console games from the PS4 and Xbox One era. But it there are advantages to this - it running very well on Steam Deck and weak PC. Lighting and effects help mask its graphical limitations. Voice acting is decent - the eerie soundtrack and unsettling sound effects further amplify the tension, with sudden noises and distant screams keeping players on edge.
Overall, Revelations 2 is a strong blend of classic and modern approaches. With an 8-hour campaign, co-op, Raid Mode, plenty of unlockables, and multiple playthrough options, it stands as a worthy addition to the series. This game reaffirms that Capcom was once heading in the right direction.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 is a much stronger entry than its predecessor, addressing many of the issues that plagued the first game. The gameplay, while still clunky in movement and animations, feels more refined and enjoyable. The enemy variety is a major highlight, with a clever evolution in design between Claire and Moira’s campaign versus Barry and Natalia’s, showing the passage of time through decayed, skeletal foes. Combat also introduces interesting mechanics, like Natalia revealing enemy weak spots and detecting invisible threats, adding a layer of strategy.
The tedious scanning system from the first game is gone, replaced by Moira’s flashlight and Natalia’s sensing abilities, making item discovery feel more natural and optional rather than a forced chore. However, puzzles remain underwhelming, with only a few standout moments, like the eerie graveyard puzzle as an example. Unfortunately, the user interface is still a mess, feeling just as clunky and outdated as before. While not perfect, Revelations 2 is a far better experience than the first, with enough improvements to make it worth playing for Resident Evil fans.

If you try to take a look at the reviews most people don’t tell why they dislike it. The only thing that is hated is that its split in episodes. Yeah, playing the package and seeing a “last time on lost” esque recap is just idiotic. But being able to buy now the whole package: what does the game offer now?
Gameplay
First the biggest difference to revelations 1 is that the npc who follows you is now someone you can actively change to at any time. There is also the possibility to play the game in split screen which is somewhat the optimal way. Its one of the most unique coop games as its a story that is meant to be played for two people. You constantly split up and have to do tasks that help the other person to advance.
In combat only one person uses weapons while the other has two options. If you play as moira you have solely a flashlight and a melee weapon. Both being useful support weapons for setting up follow attacks. If you play as the kid in barry episodes you are basically useless. You can only throw bricks which are break easily, dont do any damage and are hard to set up. Your task is solely to point at invisible enemies if they appear.
This creates a somewhat of a asymmetric coop shooter that is more horror focused than resident evil 5 while also being relatively fun in combat, if you aren’t playing the kid in barry´s episode. Instead of upgrading weapons through a shop, you can find upgrades in secret chests that the support character can open. There is also a skill system adding some abilities which is okay.
There is also high replay value with various different modes or the mercenaries mode that is a bit more easier than the first revelations and less grindy.
Story
You are trapped on an island, starting in a prison and going further to explore what this island is about. If you play barry´s episode, its set in a different time uncovering more. Those two storylines collide and end up in a satisfying finale that is a bit more memorable than the first revelations, although having not much in common story wise aside a few mentions.
Sound
Maybe one of the weaker resident evil soundtracks while still being decent. Voice acting is available in more than just English, also neat.
Graphics
Originally programmed for being a download title, its available even on the PS vita. But this is not that noticeable on the pc port. It has a decent grunge look to it and feels more like a silent hill game. Neat.
Conclusion/TL;DR
I think its a decent resident evil spin-off. The unique coop aspects is what made the game really fun for me. It stands out from the rest due to this, although having its downsides. Combat is decent but absolutely boring for people who have to play the child. There should have been more aspects to the support character gameplay. Although its still fun playing this coop horror shooter.
