General Experience
I was initially a bit mixed on The Adventure of Hills. Story is alright and the adult content is some of the highest quality you'll come across, but it's the gameplay loop that gets me; The time limit doesn't really add to the game, as you generally follow the key daytime events and mess around at night. Because of the strenuous time limit, you will not see everything on your first run. The game is definitely built with New Game+ in mind, giving you the chance to do missed events. Because of this time limit, you do not feel the same amount of freedom you would have with actual sandbox games and the playthroughs ending up shorter, getting you 2-4 hours depending on the ending you're shooting for. I still found the game to be enjoyable enough to recommend, especially seeing that the Dev is actively patching the game and addressing feedback. I've adjusted this review several times and they patched away most of my early issues.
Sequel Improvements
It's not actually a sequel in the traditional sense, but the heroine Micoco has her own game prior to this. It's more of a point and click adventure with puzzles. You can play Hills without touching it, but can explore it if you want a little more lore on Micoco. Hills is improved upon in every way; It has more CGs (they are not animated in Micoco), more gameplay, and more depth overall.
Adult Content
You do NOT need a patch to access the full game. The adult content is the game's biggest strength and it is of the highest quality. The artwork is top-notch, everything is animated, and all the scenes are voiced. There are 30ish unique animated CGs that match that high-quality, not including the endings or the game-over CGs. There is a memory gallery available from the start, and you can unlock all of the encounters during new game+, however endings and achievements will not be unlocked this way. The Steam page does list what type content to expect, so keep that in mind. On top of that, some of those game-over CGs are brutal (but nothing too shocking).
Complaints
You have a 9 day time limit, which is quite short, on top of them having only a day and night cycle. Unless you did a great job at managing your economy, it feels like you can only get enough money for the better endings by saving it for new game+. It also doesn't help that some optional events for the main ending are time sensitive; I do not think you will naturally get progress towards the better endings unless you constantly check the Town Guide. Failing to follow the blue-text town guide suggestions will lock yourself out of various endings.
Replayability
The game does feature new game+ as it's core replayability; Each playthrough is maybe 2-4 hours, with a total of 5 endings to strive for. The time goes down quite a bit if you're skipping dialog, so subsequent playthroughs will end up going by without any issues. That said, they all play the same and you will see all of the story by following the true ending. Anything else is just skipping steps and getting a different ending CG. While it has 5 endings, I don't think you will *feel* like you got something more out of the other playthroughs. You do need all the endings to 100% the game, however.
Achievements
The achievements require several playthroughs. Each of the 5 endings has an achievement, it should be possible to get the other achievements within those 5. A lot of the achievements are related to the end of various chain quests or repeated events and are not hard to get when you understand the loop. It's a time investment, but the game wasn't that hard to 100%.
Technical Issues
I didn't have any game-breaking issues. It's an RPGmaker game, so you can expect the usual jank.
Value
The base game is $15, and at this time it also has a 10% discount for the release. If you just clear the game once and unlock the CGs in NG+, you're going to get like 3ish hours of content and it will be hard to justify the cost. You will get most of your value going for all the endings, but I felt like the playthroughs were too similar to each other to feel meaningful. I do recommend it, the scene quality is phenomenal and the first playthrough was enjoyable.
