Quick Notes
• I played the hell out of this game when I was a kid. I felt that nostalgia kick in the moment I opened the game. Yet, it wasn't the same. The game feels outdated and I can't see myself really playing this anymore. • It's a good game if you can get past how aged it is. Very nostalgic. I got RCT from a cereal box (Cheerios, I think?) as a kid and playing it again has been a blast from the past. A game that lets you pretend to own/manage a theme park.

There is a reason why this game has lasted as long as it has, over 20 years of fun and play! This game has the memories of me as a 12 year old kid all over again coming to life in much better graphics than I remember. Constructing rides, parks, even re-creating IRL parks to your desire are sure to find you on this game! Now let's go building!

While I don't have many hours as of this review, I've played this game tons from my CD copy. It's a great game! The annoyance of only being able to charge to enter or for the rides on RCT2 was really the only thing that annoyed me about Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. Not sure, if Open Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 fixes this or makes it a toggle or something, but even so you need Open Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. Open Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 makes this game a breeze to run on modern systems. I highly recommend getting Roller Coaster Tycoon: Deluxe and Roller Coaster Tycoon 2: Triple Thrill Pack! That adds all the scenarios from both games in Open Roller Coaster Tycoon 2.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 2: Triple Thrill Pack on Steam is a nostalgic yet timeless simulation experience that continues to captivate fans of theme park management more than two decades after its original release. This edition bundles the base game with the two expansion packs, Wacky Worlds and Time Twister, offering a massive array of content for creative builders and strategy-minded managers alike. Developed by Chris Sawyer, the game remains a masterclass in balancing complex systems with accessibility, all wrapped in a charming pixel-art aesthetic that still holds up due to its clarity and distinctive visual style. At its core, RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 is about building and managing a successful amusement park. Players are tasked with constructing rides, laying out paths, managing staff, tweaking prices, and keeping guests entertained and happy. The game offers dozens of scenarios, each with unique objectives—ranging from achieving a certain park value to attracting a specific number of guests under budget constraints. This structure provides a strong sense of progression and challenge, and while there is no overarching campaign or story, the diversity of objectives keeps the gameplay fresh. Scenario design is where the game quietly shines, with each map offering unique terrain, limitations, or themes that push the player to adapt their building and financial strategies. The expansion packs included in the Triple Thrill Pack significantly expand the game’s content without diluting its identity. Wacky Worlds introduces international themes—such as building around an Eiffel Tower replica or designing an amusement park in a jungle—while Time Twister dives into history and fantasy, with Roman-themed decor, prehistoric attractions, and futuristic elements. While some of the assets in these expansions can feel gimmicky or overly stylized, they allow for more creative freedom and give the game added longevity. The additional scenarios are a mixed bag in terms of challenge and design quality, but they offer fun thematic variations for players seeking something beyond the vanilla parks. RollerCoaster Tycoon 2’s greatest strength lies in its incredible attention to simulation detail and the freedom it gives the player. The economic and visitor behavior systems are surprisingly deep for a game of its era. Every guest in the park has individual thoughts, preferences, and needs. You can micromanage every ride’s ticket price, queue length, maintenance schedule, and reliability. Staff require thoughtful placement and coverage, especially in large or complex parks. Yet none of this feels overwhelming—thanks to the game’s intuitive interface and thoughtful presentation, it gradually guides players into its layers of management with excellent feedback loops and visual cues. Custom rollercoaster design remains one of the most satisfying and engaging features. Players can create virtually any coaster layout they can imagine, complete with banking, elevation changes, tunnels, and scenery. Each coaster can be tested, with ratings for excitement, intensity, and nausea that directly affect guest interest. This sandbox-style creativity is at the heart of the game’s long-lasting appeal. Even beyond completing scenarios, many players simply enjoy building elaborate parks and perfecting layouts—thanks in part to the scenario editor and the flexibility to import custom scenery and rides. Graphically, the isometric pixel art style may seem dated at first glance, but it’s surprisingly effective. The visual clarity, combined with the charming and colorful designs, make it easy to identify park elements and navigate even massive, complex builds. The game runs flawlessly on modern systems, and its retro interface remains functional, though it may feel clunky to newer players accustomed to streamlined UI design. Sound design is minimal but iconic—cheerful music loops, the buzz of rollercoasters, and the ambient chatter of crowds create a lively park atmosphere without being intrusive. While RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 does show its age in some UI and graphical areas, it’s hard to deny the enduring genius of its design. The game strikes a near-perfect balance between creative freedom and business management, and its modular, open-ended structure gives it virtually infinite replay value. The Triple Thrill Pack is the definitive version, combining core mechanics with themed expansions that offer more variety and experimentation. For fans of simulation, strategy, or sandbox creativity, this classic is still a benchmark for the genre. Whether you're returning for a dose of nostalgia or discovering it for the first time, RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 continues to be one of the most rewarding and delightful management games ever made.
