the abilities are too strong and able to be spammed way too often. makes the gunplay feel irrelevant. plus the issue of most lobbies being filled with non-functioning bots has prevailed since the alpha tests.
TLDR;
Giving a "Recommended" review because the game is fun. The issues I have with this game all stem from ONE problem. The low player base numbers. This is a long review (mostly rant) about how bad the game feels with the current population so you know what you're getting into if you decide to pick it up, keeping in mind that all of the problems ahead won't really be a problem (on paper) if the population increases. So first, a couple positives so it's not ALL doom and gloom: - The Devs listen and actively work on the balancing of the game so I don't care to cry about the balance when I know things will improve in time, while simultaneously being in a decent spot already. - Same with the bugs. I just report the bugs and move on cause they'll be fixed in time. - The gameplay and gunplay feels fun, the different abilities of each character adds some nice spice to the matches and being able to change mid-match to counter pick against enemies is great and can help turn games around. - The Devs very clearly care about the game, as seen by their frequent updates to address issues and balancing. Now onto my RANTING: The big issue I have is the extremely low player base causing the main gamemodes to feel TERRIBLE to play and very little seemingly being done as of now to remedy that. They have mentioned that Bot optimization is ongoing and that they're going to work on tuning the Bots for "Balanced Difficulty Scaling" which I can only assume means the game will adjust the difficulty of the bots based on how many REAL players are on the team compared to the other team. Which COULD be a bandaid fix for the issue until they figure out how to grow the game more. I play one of the main gamemodes called "Conquest", which is essentially Capture the Flags. It's a pretty fun gamemode, sometimes. But 9/10 times it is a purely one-sided slaughter. And the 1/10 game that ends up being pretty close has a 50% chance of being ruined by the "Neutral Item", an objective that shows up 1-2 times per game that grants a team a certain number of points back if they capture it. - The 9/10 games being one-sided slaughters boil down to are you solo queue? Great! You're up against a 3/4 person pre-made. Are you a pre-made? Great! You're up against a solo-queue person. It is uncommon to get a match with more than 5 players and even more uncommon for the 5 players to be evenly spread amongst teams because 3/4 of the people tend to be in a party together. You might not think that's too bad but you need to remember these main game modes are 20v20, so you're stuck with Bots if you're unlucky enough to queue into a pre-made. You're unlikely to have many real people join in after the game begins (it does happen, but it not enough to balance teams usually). So good luck. Even if you're the only real person on your team and you're only against 2 real people, you'd still be hard pressed to win unless one of the enemies just don't play/capture anything, due to how big the maps are and how many flags there are to capture (3-5 depending on the map). It's just simple math, 2 is better than 1. 1 person capturing while the other person is defending a flag or also capturing, will do more than you by yourself. - The 1/10 being being close and fun? Sometimes that happens! And it's REALLY fun. You get a match that has an even 5v5 real people on each team, it's tense, it gets down to the last few hundred points and then the Neutral Item drops. It is no longer a close, intense match, it's now a game of "If you don't capture this one thing, you lose, doesn't matter how well you've been doing so far, or how well you do for the rest of the game." The Neutral Item makes sense in a world where there are 15+ real people on each team. But in the current state of the game/the current player count, the Neutral Item just RUINS an otherwise fun match because you essentially just have to give up if you don't capture it near the end of the match if it shows up. I've never had a single objective in a game piss me off as much as this thing. And I didn't even get into it's horrible spawn locations too, "Neutral" my ass. I recommend removing it from the game until the player base grows or until it gets reworked into something that doesn't tear you away from the main objective of the game because it is quite literally a game changer. (Unless you're in one of the 9/10 games, cause it'll either drag out the slaughter or the winning team may end up with more points than you start with which is so disheartening) Now I did mention "Main" gamemodes, so you're probably wondering what the side gamemodes are. And I would love to tell you more about them, but unfortunately they're both TIME LOCKED. So if you're unable to be on the game for the few hours each day when they're unlocked, you're shit outta luck. The main reason they're time locked is because the Devs worry about fragmenting the player base even more, but the way I see it is the playerbase is already so fragmented that it wouldn't matter in a negative way. There's multiple servers and 2 gamemodes, for a game that gets about 300 players at peak daily (which they open the modes for peak times, fragmenting the peak), I don't think adding an additional gamemode that's smaller scale and shorter matches will matter, if anything it might boost the numbers knowing you can queue into a short and sweet deathmatch instead of playing a drawn out "will my bots be able to capture flags or defend anything? no? okay I lose" game mode. Or it'll bring 80% of the playerbase together as a small scale deathmatch is significantly more fun than a 20v20 where there is maybe 2 real people on either team. The side gamemodes are both smaller scale team deathmatches. No flags, no neutral item, no worries, all deathmatch. One being a regular team deathmatch, the other being a "random" team deathmatch where your character and weapons are randomised. Very fun modes I've been able to play maybe 3/4 times in total since their release. With them being smaller scale and shorter matches, having them permanently unlocked and maybe swap between it being the normal Deathmatch and the Random Deathmatch on a daily rotation/weekly rotation, is something I would love to see happen but I haven't seen any mention of it potentionally happening. The reason I don't think it would matter is because of how bad the matchmaking is in the first place, you either solo queue into pre-mades or pre-make into solo queuers. At the very least with the Team Deathmatches the games are shorter, so if you're getting dominated you at least know it'll be a short match. But also there is no side objective other than killing (or reviving if you're built like that), so there's no "oh we've lost because the bots are useless at capturing flags while I'm killing enemies" or no neutral item to turn a close match into a guarantee loss/win. Most people you queue into are bots anyway so would it really matter if people queued against mostly bots in the side modes if they really would rather play the side mode (I really would rather play the side mode at this point). Some people have so much issues with the main modes being so one sided that they literally just wont play the game anyway, so if the deathmatch becomes a constant option it might up those daily numbers. The Main modes are designed to be 20v20, and with a playerbase that rarely, if ever, gets close to even a 10v10 with bots filling up the rest of the slots (I once got an 8v8, it was glorious), is it worth keeping the core design of these modes that clearly favor you having at least 1 more real person compared to the other team over a smaller scale mode that leans less into bots being stronger and more based on your actual ability to kill enemies. All in all I like the game a lot, but they need to focus on smaller scale modes like the team deathmatches until the player base increases. Because there's no point to a 20v20 when 99% of them are bots.

Wild Assault is still in Early Access, but it already shows a ton of potential. There’s a nice variety of characters to choose from, each with their own unique abilities and playstyles, which keeps the game feeling fresh. The story isn’t super deep yet, but that’s understandable since it’s still being developed. There are some balance issues and a bit of cheating here and there, but when the game works, it’s a blast especially when playing with friends. Going up against real players is way more fun than just bots, and I really hope more people start picking the game up. My favorite character so far is Marquez she’s an awesome skunk girl with cool acid attacks. Easily one of the best characters I’ve seen in any game! If you're into team shooters and want something new to try, I definitely recommend checking out Wild Assault.

Another game I wanted sooooo badly to enjoy, but I find I cannot enjoy it at all. With zero skill based matchmaking, one overpowered character being used, bad gun mechanics, and character trait imbalances, I just can't think of a single nice thing to say about this game. The graphic suck @$$, the game modes are all alike, there is hardly any game mode variation. But worst of all, the game dumps you in lobbies with no skill ceiling, so the game doesn't give new players a single chance. I recommend nobody play this game, not even furries who love competitive shooters. Spare yourself the $15, this game isn't even worth $5 the way it is now.

Game needs work but feels really fun, 12 hrs into the game and well see how it is after like 50 to 100 hrs in the game. And yes furry stuff oh well, it works for this game to be honest. My biggest pet peeve with EA games like Battlefield series some felt like chore and same with DF(Delta Force). Always up hill battle to change into your favor without being auto loose match in a way. Here you can change the game in blink of an eye and feels nice, but yes there's some matches team feels like they don't want to win. That happens with any game to be honest.

I realise and appreciate that the theme is not everyone's cup of tea, and that is perfectly fine, (those who are not fond of it, can simply leave it alone and play something else they enjoy), but for me, Wild Assault quickly become one of my favourite games! I'm not particularly keen on PvP focused titles or PvP in general really, i prefer PvE and Solo experiences, but I had been hoping for a "Furry Battlefield" type game for a while, particularly one that was not centred around sexualised content (each to their own right?). So, i was cautiously optimistic when it had first been announced. Thankfully I was able to participate in the final play test they had run prior to its release into EA and i really enjoyed that; and i have to say that even now in early access i haven't felt disappointed; a little wanting content/feature wise, but not disappointed. The game is certainly not perfect; it needs more time and love to be refined and to have more content/features added and or adjusted - which is to be expected from an EA game and which the Dev's have been doing already, promising much more to come, but even so the game is a lot of fun! There is no pay to win, no characters or weapons locked behind a paywall, the free-tier Battlepass is pretty decent in my opinion, with the game having additional free events to unlock more cosmetics, premium currency feels a little more reasonably priced compared to many other games (especially after player feedback surrounding initial cosmetic prices; which they listened too very quickly and even refunded players accordingly afterwards), progression feels well paced and simple and it is not super grindy, so your time feels a little more respected. The Dev's have been doing a great job thus far and from what i have seen, they are active and they seem to be listening to player feedback. They regularly patch issues and concerns and seem to be committed to their game and community (only time will truly tell of course but so far so good). Despite how some might feel about "Furries", it is very reminiscent of Battlefield - minus a few missing things like vehicles or environmental destruction for example (which i personally hope come later), but for those who are not keen on the theme and are unsure about it, i think it is worth looking past the Furry exterior and giving the game a fair go before making a final personal verdict. The best review is the one you make for yourself. You may find that the game is better than expected and you have a great time with it, but if not, then no real harm done. Simply request a refund, perhaps consider sharing some honest constructive feedback to the Dev's so they can learn something good from your time and experience with their game and then just move on. At least you would have tried it and been able to make an informed decision for yourself and maybe assist someone else in making theirs at the same time, while also helping fill up server's with more players rather than bots for however long you happen to be on. Everyone wins. Personally i like playing against bots and think that bots filling up server's is far better than not being able to play at all. That being said, i think it would be beneficial for the game to have PvP only servers and PvE/PvPvE servers, along with solo/local offline and private game support. To the Dev's. Great job so far Combat Cat! Keep up the good work, keep listening to feedback with an open mind and keep persevering to improve your game and ensure it becomes a healthy mix of what you envisioned it to be, but also what your players are hoping and looking for. I for one am excited for the future of Wild Assault and to be a part of its community! Thanks for reading! EDIT: Regarding the cost for premium currency (Beast Coins), when i wrote my review, i had yet to attempt to purchase any currency and thought that the prices shown were in my countries dollar. It turns out that it is not and that the price is in fact in USD (this may very well be something that was mentioned by the Dev's but that i had simply not seen), but either way, it kicks up the price enough that it makes it comparable to any other F2P game. Personally i think that it makes a single skin for a character far too expensive and not really worth the cost. Does this mean i wont ever get any skins? No. But what it does mean is that if i do decide to get something, it will need to be for something i REALLY REALLY REALLY want. Now if it were say $5-10 cheaper per character skin (and reasonably cheaper for other items), then id be much more willing to spend more money, because i get much more out of that, while still supporting the game. I understand that it needs to be worth it for the Developer's, and i sincerely appreciate that, but, i work very hard for this money and what i spend it it on, MUST be worth it to me first. At the end of the day, digital goods are digital and thus not truly ours (the consumer). Such things can and have been taken away at a Developer's discretion for one reason or another - consider other games that are shut down after many years (or soon after in some cases) as an example of this. You may have had good use out of it for a long while, but then for whatever reason, said game is shut down and all the money you spent on those additional digital goods, is as of that moment, gone. This can be a double edged sword though, because should a game not do well enough financially, then that could cause that game to fail, especially for smaller businesses. Its a difficult balance to get right, so no dig at the Dev's whatsoever here. With that said, i am not saying that you shouldn't spend some money reasonably, but this is just something to consider when weighing out the value of what that money is spent on. It would be highly beneficial for prices of in-game items to: 1. be shown in the respective players local currency in-game, and or 2. at least show what currency you will be charged in prior to attempting a purchase in-game. Yes, you will see it when you attempt a purchase via Steam, but i still think it would be respectable to have all the information prior. Its not a deal breaker by any means, just a beneficial change in my opinion. Once again to the Dev's. I love Wild Assault, it is one of my favourite games and i want to see it succeed! Perhaps consider allowing premium items to be purchased with Beast Tags from the beginning or on a rotating basis in a dedicated in-game store (the standard in-game currency for those who don't know). It might take some time to grind the amount needed, but it would help keep players playing the game and allow players to get more out of the game. Thanks again guys!

Okay, been playing for a minute and I have to say, I'm really liking the game. There's just something about it that keeps me coming back again and again. Don't let the anthro characters scare you off. It's really an enjoyable game once you get into the swing of things. It needs a horse girl, however.

Alright. Now that the honeymoon phase is over... And with a bit of salt on the side (for reasons soon to be discussed) TL:DR- Bad balancing character/weapon/matchmaking-wise. HIIIIIIGH skill ceiling with mastery over unintentional exploits. Split community. Good potential, but not quite there yet. Performance is mid, the framerate chugs very often with the "recommended" hardware. Now for the rant: Game is alright. Theres a solid game beneath all the problems... The balancing? Garbage. The weapons? Unbalanced. Time to kill? Depends if you have a good weapon or not, but the range tends to be either 1-2 seconds.... or instant death with how friggin accurate some of the weapons are with how crap the drop off damage is. Wanna get sniped by smgs? Be my guest. Some classes are just broken at the moment. The fox (i will just refer to them by their species) just zips around everywhere and is insanely annoying to fight against, wolf having wall hacks as if he was a bat with sonars is hilarious but kinda stupid and kinda busted, the crocodile is stupidly fast and supposedly a sniper class but more of an ambusher. They are so fast it makes you wonder if the devs ever read animal facts. Yes they can move at pretty fast bursts of speed but not THAT fast... and they are fast comparatively to humans not to friggin tigers and even bunnies which can be deceptively fast. (Studied zoology in college so it peeved me. this isn't that important lol... but still! Friggin crocodile is fast as all hell. Oh he has heat vision too aparently). You can see where I am going tho, some of these guys are crazy. Then you have the bull. He has smoke grenades. He can charge into certain death. I guess his Ult is a riot shield.......... They gave the crocodile heat vision wtf like come on. I still like the game but the anticheat is also equally a joke. It is REALLY hard to tell if someone has wall hacks because of all the ways to HAVE actual wallhacks in the game (yes there are characters that can see through walls... *COUGHreconclasscough*) but its really easy to see the aim hacks. Shoulder peeking is a thing due to its third person nature, but when someone jumps past a corner, and kills you in a microsecond from having only done headshots with an smg... or nails ya in the head with a revolver whilst jumping constantly and as repeated offense? Yea im convinced this game has no anticheat at all. Guess what else is also a joke. The matchmaking. As in, its a joke. Its non existent. Deep down theres a good game in there. But right now... this game needs a ton of work to kinda get to the point of being fun. Unless you like hacking or are a boomer shooter URT/Quake pro that practices in aimlabs all day. Then you get the priviledge of mowing down all the bots and potential future playerbase to oblivion. Edit: I realized this game has no rock paper scissors. No counter play for a lot of characters. Just a LOT of paper and a couple of scissors. This games balancing is awful. Do not buy. Let it cook and hope it gets better.

*This review is from first session after watching this game since release, there are people who cover this games problems extensively that would just be me parroting their points. This is more a season 2 release positives and my two cents on other things.* This game feels fun, looks nice, can be fun, but it is atrocious in terms of game modes and balancing. I played right before the season 2 release but have watched friends streams of this game to get the general idea and decide to buy this game on sale. The pros of season 2 are as follows: Characters +The entirety of the base roster is available from jump (they said they will refund wildcoins for past character purchases and used for cosmetics) later down the road. But -Season 1 character medic is still only unlocked after level 8 of the first season pass speaking of which... Battlepass +Battlepasses so far look permanent meaning you can go back to a season which is a HUGE plus here. The other plus is the character is available from the jump which is very good. Its very good to be able to come back to a past battlepass and take your time when you want to rather than grinding it before it ends. -Same as above about the cat medic but its early and may change the position. Achivements -I don't know if this is a recurring problem before season but I only did two matches and unlocked 25+ (33 at time of writing) achievements for kills, revives, point captures, etc. Had to look at this when I got 3 hour map achivements and literally played for 69 minutes (nice). The above positive points shows the dev team does listen to the criticisms and show they are willing to work on those. But other than all that... The major gripe the dev team does with this game is make this game PvP only focused where they fill the lobbies with bots to fill in the slowly bleeding out player population while not even having a dedicated players vs bots game modes for the TWO ONLY AVAILABLE GAME MODES besides when they allow you to play a scheduled team deathmatch. While I enjoy medium to large-scale pvp games, I do like to have a more casual mode at times in games like this. Small Indie PvP games always have a problem when they do this (Example Crowfall that game was fun but did not last long due to this) and large scale pvp only games that failed to add some kind of practice bot mode like Gundam Evolution. I don't think the solution to this player problem is the FTP argument per-say but it is still iffy paying money then more for FTP gimmicks that is iffy. Skins are decently priced, some furries will play this game for the characters alone, but most people from looking at discussions is adding some sort of coop campaign and/or a player vs bots match while adding the option to play pvp so if the game does go below 100 players eventually after the post nut clarity of season 2 wears off or season 3 turns out to be a letdown, it would keep people at least playing the game with some enjoyment and buying the next swimsuit skin when it pops up (please give ULY a better one than just a summer recolor). All in all, I think the dev team is cooking here with this game they are listening to some criticisms but they are still cooking at low heat in a tiny frying pan when the game should be in a Wok pan with full fire roaring if they want to wow people and get more eyes on this. Season 2 shows this but they need the rest of this season to either add something like a Bot match mode and not wait for season 3 to make this correction. The bots are already there there are no excuses. I would recommend this game but in this games current state as of now, I just cannot. For more in depth reviews, look at other reviews on this game. I will still play this game because when I finally got to play it and having a blast but I do not see myself playing more than thirty minutes to an hour once a week in its current state.

The gameplay itslef its not bad, the desings are clearly meant to appeal to furries but it feels like a fresh take on a shooter. However, I cannot recomend in the current state. Matches are incredibly unbalanced, every match I've played has had me facing 60 lvl players who have maxed out their valiants and weapons, and I've barely played 10 matches. A lot of bots, which are ususally useless. For some reason, all automatic weapons have infite recoil and accesories add little bonuses to correct it. Certain maps and points clearly benefit the defenders, making it impossible to attack and take points, while others are almost impossible to defend. Seen many complaints about the new valiant. I haven't played enough to say if it's true, but everytime I've seen half my team die in less than 10 seconds, its been a croc, so there might be some truth to it. I like the game and the idea it has for gameplay, but would advise not to buy until it gets a bit more polished.
