Playtime: 5 minutes
(Played using an Oculus Quest 2) It's one of those games you see in deceptive mobile advertisements, but for real. I'm going to be gentle because it seems like it's an amateur's first commercial project. You grab two guns (choosing from a pistol, smg and "shot gun") that fire bullets that have ENORMOUS bullet drop so you have to aim them upwards a little. You shoot the number blocks to reduce the number to 0 and earn whatever the attached reward is. The reward might be a parameter upgrade like damage or rate of fire, or it might be gold you can use to buy more upgrades, or it might be a score bonus. There are blocks with negative effects like downgrades and explosions, but it's so easy not to shoot them that they might as well not even be there. It sure does what it sets out to do. You shoot number blocks for four minutes and then you shoot your way through a bunch of unmissable "boss blocks" that have increasing multipliers until one of them touches you and the leaderboard gets displayed. Completing a round gives you gems you can use to unlock more weapons and purchase persistent upgrades, but unless you really hate numbers it's the kind of thing that's fun in small doses. There's not particularly anything challenging about shooting the blocks. At a $3 price tag, it's a nice diversion and I haven't seen anything else like it. On the constructive criticism side, it feels like there's a LOT that could be done to this game relatively easily that would improve the experience, such as: - Having a "pause" bind that allows the player to freely browse the upgrades on the right side mid-game - Having blocks move in increasingly challenging patterns as the game progresses rather than having them all just slide forwards - Removing bullet drop. It feels bad. Bullets should fly straight. - Creating more variance in the health values of blocks. With a "mathy" game like this, sometimes blocks should spawn that are going to be impossible or near-impossible to destroy in time. Those serve as skill checks for the player's ability to estimate their damage output. Cheers to the dev for releasing what's there and I hope they take some interesting directions with it / learn a lot for their next project.
