First of all great game, I bought this game when it came out on early access, i obviously didnt think it was ready at the time. i have bought this a year latter and it has improved, a great bit of retro fun, but i have a number of pcs, one is a 5700g that runs in ubuntu, i played this game for nearly 2 hours no problem, i come back the next morning and it will only run at 30 fps, not 60 as it was the night before, my other pcs work fine, a bit annoying if i want to play this game i will have to switch what device i use, hopefully they fix this, ideally it would be nice to choose the refresh rate. but not many games like this i totally recommend it.

I like this game! Back in the day I played a fair share of Colin McRae Rally 2 on PC, and some CMR 1 on both PC and PS1 - and I felt right at home when I first opened this game. I never had a sensible controller on my earlier PC setups, so after trying the rookie rally with an XBONE controller, I switched to keyboard (trying to remember what my CMR2 button layout was). And yeah, I like this game, a lot! At the time of writing, I've unlocked all except the last rally, which I'll open later today. As it's still early access, here's my notes and a couple of suggestions so far: - this is really easy to hop-in-hop-out type of game, the required times for winning/completing a stage is really loose. Probably a lot due to the roads being veeeery wide :) Except for the Chinese stages, they are completely out of balance with the rest of the lot. - but actually, I'd like to have some more of those Chinese style stages which I couldn't just drive through and win with one try, even a sloppy one. No need to modify the stage layouts, just introduce an option to lower the required time to win a stage? - the cars seem to have sufficiently different characteristics, which is nice - the environments don't seem to differ that much, and especially I'd hope that thick snow should act like water, i.e. the speed should drop really significantly if you drive off the Swedish roads - it's a little bit annoying that the mouse pointer comes to the center of the screen at the end of stage, regardless where I've put it moments earlier - idk if this is due to my bluetooth speaker, but all the sounds seem to come about 1 sec late. It is most notable when chrashing the car, and the crash sound comes late. I don't have this issue with other games, or at least I haven't noticed, so it's possible that there is something that needs adjusting in the game? - in any case, this game is definitely something that I'm enjoying now, and most likely in the future too. keep up the good work!

This game is a good time, and you get a decent amount of content for the price. Car handling is an adaptation of old school arcade racers but with a tiny bit of added complexity with throttle control. If you're looking for a fun game that you can pick up and play in small spurts, with chill mechanics, then you should 100% buy this game.

Rare 11/10 I mean if you grew up in 90s ps1 was your gaming device and Gran Turismo 1,2 and Colin McRae rally were your best gaming buddies how else would you rate this? Peak. I naively thought 15 percent off is a poor sale, I was wrong.

While underwhelming to most arcade racing enthusiasts, it's good fun for a few hours. Good car variety, and interesting tracks. The main thing holding it back is its driving model.

Worth it for the soundtrack alone. Also the best sense of speed in any current rally game. Now give me a rallycross game in this style please.

I really want to like this game, but there is still a lot of work before this becomes a game I can truly recommend it. I'm basing my expectations on Colin McRae Rally 2.0, V-Rally 2 and Rallysport Challenge as my most familiar racing titles. Starting with the good things. The best parts of the game are evident. These include: - Graphics are quite nice and fitting. - The cars control very well for their purpose. - The selection of cars is plentiful and cover in my opinion the most important Rally cars of that time. Then there are a lot of obvious things that will get added, like more tracks which I won't mention here, but there are a few issues which much require attention, before I could truly recommend this game. - Arcade mode against one CPU-opponent with no collision is redundant and repetitive. 4 player clash with collision detection was a quintessential part of late 90's Rally games. - The Soundtrack seems to have next to no thematic cohesion. Driver of Destiny and Hype of Speed are really off-putting in a game like this. They are not bad tracks, they rock in fact. They just don't fit the theme in my opinion. A weird mix of Ridge Racer Type 4 and Twisted Metal. - The campaign has been way too easy so far. I've been playing the first 4 tournaments needing only 4-5 retries in total of almost 25 races. I think it needs a difficulty setting of some sort. - It's great that the game has a split-screen mode, but on a laptop/PC environments an online feature (for a private room for instance) would be a marvelous feature. - Adding a myriad of Torii-gates and cherry trees on gravel roads really stretches "Japan"-like environment. Felt a bit uninspired. - And my biggest disappointment has to be the lack of tuning options. Tuning is an essential feature in rally games and the damage system feels almost pointless. I surely hope a proper tuning and damage system is added in later updates.

Old School Rally is an elite Steam Deck racing game. These days, my Deck is used almost solely for racing games, and Old School Rally is 100% getting added to that rotation. Old School Rally has a seemingly simple arcade handling model, but after about 5 hours, I can see the importance of brake and throttle control. Easy to grasp, but has a lot to it. Has a retro graphics style with undeniable charm, which also lends perfectly to Steam Deck optimization. Runs virtually flawless with an occasional hitch. Only real problem is a brief freeze right when crossing the finish line, but it doesn't affect your ability to win races or affect your overall time, so not a glaring issue. Lastly, the soundtrack absolutely bangs. I'll definitely be listening to it even when not playing the game. Highly recommend Old School Rally!

If you plan on getting this to just relax and play a something that reminds you of games that came before it, there's nothing wrong picking it up. However if you're like me and love these games, especially the ones it's based on, I wouldn't bother, Between callouts that would have an irl driver beat their co-drivers head in with their helmet, poorly modeled maps, and the cars behaving weird on some maps for no reason I really can't stand playing it. I played the beta/pre-release demo and hoped the problems I saw at that point would have been looked at or worked on by now, they haven't. The game looks great, but doesn't play great, it fails to capture the image it's immitating by trying too hard to be multiple things at once. The dev tried to fuse Mcrae rally with Sega Rally Champ, which just doesnt work. it's one or the other, With maps too tight for the SRC arcadey slide turning, Over-acceleration, the absence of calls half the time, and obscene grind for cars, I'll stick to the originals and modern counterparts I can actually perform on.
