A charming precision platformer that it on the easier side but still punishing. I spent closer to 7 hours including the offline time Steam didn't log.

A well-polished rage platformer that demands precision vaulting in tense circumstances. Loved the little mushroom puff effects in the low levels. Got to see them a lot as I fell down over and over. Good sound design and a great score round out a tight little experience. Thumbs up.

This game is wonderful! The art is beautiful, the movement is delightful, and the atmosphere created by the music, sound, and narration is haunting.

I played the early version for at least a few hours on itch. It was a lot of fun screen sharing and racing with friends and stuff. I never actually beat it until I picked up the steam version.
Really beautiful art. Has a real nostalgic feel to it for some reason. The whole experience was nice and polished. I fell a lot towards the end of the game, but ultimately I'm very satisfied now that I've beaten it! Once you've mastered a lot of the jumps it's strangely cathartic to cruise back up to where you were before you fell.
If you're looking for a single player purely skill based thing to focus on this is a nice way to get into a flow state for a while!

What a lovely little experience. The mood is incredibly well crafted. The art, the music, the writing, all work extremely well together to accompany a really beautifully frustrating experience. At first it just felt frustrating, and like the controls were clunky. But once I got my bearings, I realized how expressive the movement was. I really felt myself improving, and what was an initially difficult first area, became a breeze.
If you like a tough challenge that provides a sense of mastery, and/or you like a really haunting mood, it's definitely worth checking out.

This game was fantastic!!! I was a little bit addicted to it when I first started playing it about a week after downloading it. I know that part of the game is meant to be frustration, but to be honest, I never found it frustrating even when I fell; every time, I felt like I was still getting farther and getting more comfortable with the mechanics, so there was nothing discouraging about the fall. I also really enjoyed the ending, it reminded me of a poem I like a lot called "the lesson of the moth by archy." Adorable character art, beautiful backgrounds, fantastic gameplay - would definitely recommend!!

Nice fun little game. If you like platforming with some sort of mastery in movement or just a challenge (or pain and suffering), i do recommend.

To The Flame is a wonderful Rage Platformer that had me on the edge of my seat. The longer I played & the higher I got, the more desperate it got me to want to reach the top. The presentation is awesome and the vibe is perfect for what it's going for. It's worth giving a shot for yourself and making the ascent to the top.

This game is great and well worth the price. I think it's an excellent intro game to Foddian-style/masocore games and has replay value via speedrunning. If you've played Jump King, your skills will carry over to this. It's not as punishing or difficult as JK, but still offers plenty of challenge the first playthrough. If you haven't finished JK, I'd guess an initial playthrough would take about 5-8 hours. If you have finished JK, you can probably beat this one in roughly 2 hours.
The movement in this game is like a mix of JK's deep snow/Giant Boots + ice/Snake Ring, i.e. you can only jump and can't walk, and your character has a bit of slide on landing. The double-jump opens up a lot of movement potential, and it’s genuinely a blast using it in different ways. There's seemingly no delay between landing and you're jump count resetting, which lets you schmoove all over. Mixing double jump, slides, and short hops makes for overall movement that is very satisfying and snappy. The collision detection - in particular when you're just clearing a platform's corner into a slide - feels extremely fair and perfectly matches what my eyes are able to process in the moment. The developer added a speedrunner quick restart just prior to the Steam release, which is an excellent thing to have built-in rather than having to mod it in.
I love the music in The Tower, and the visuals/atmosphere throughout are very well done. The leaves on the trees and shrubs have this beautiful effect where they look painted, and in my first playthrough I really enjoyed spending time soaking in the artwork. The spider's animations look great, and the heartbeat sound + zoom-in on the camera when the spider's near you are very nice touches.
The spider is an interesting mechanic, and I imagine it'll be fun watching streamers interact with it. As a heads up if you have grinded JK: you may not find the spider super threatening after the first couple encounters with it. I don't see this as a negative, as I feel like the spider's inclusion is intended for a different audience than speedrunners. The developer mentioned they may be able to make the spider more aggressive for speedrunners if the game has a committed group of runners that would benefit from this type of update.
I played this game on itch.io before getting it on Steam, so my playtime at the time of this Steam review doesn't reflect total playtime. My best run at the time of this writing is 3:05.44, but a 2:30/2:40ish time is well within reach!
