A fever dream of a game, and I loooove it!!! If you are born in mid-2000, it will touch your heart. It brings up the inner child in me. It pushes just the right buttons. The gameplay is simple and complicated at the same time. The basic gameplay is quite straight forward, but to progress deeper in the game, you’d have to learn more mechanics of elemental powers. But when you learn this, boy it becomes addictive as hell.

Loved every second of it!!! It’s weird, it’s fresh. It’s not perfect, but oh boy it feels good to play. Gameplay is snappy and satisfying. Its child-like art hides very creepy vibes. It hooks you up, and keeps you engaged.

Quite addictive. If you like Rain World, it gives similar vibes, but much simpler. You feel unsafe and quite fragile at first. But when you power-up, boy it becomes more like Vampire Survivors. So, this feeling worthless at first and feeling overpower at the end – this is what does it for me

It’s a very interesting and quite creative concept. The world is hypnotic. I loved it, loved searching the world for sweet-sweet upgrades. The gameplay has different layers unfolding with a little bit of time. It’s simple at first, but becomes trickier the further you play. You die a lot in this game, especially in the beginning. You sink into it, so you sometimes forget to look at icons and Bam! you’re dead already. It has its issues, not a perfect game, but a very charming one. It’s fast, it’s engaging, it’s quite short. It’s a good game to unwind for a bit.

Bought Echoes of the Abyss after discovering the developer’s Youtube channel. You can see there was a lot of heart put into the game. I love it and I hate it at the same time. It’s really HARD sometimes!!! It’s quite charming, but did it have to be hard? I thought it would be a breeze and a calm cake-walk. Love that dev make updates and fixes small bugs. Loved the intriguing story. Still haven’t finished it yet, but I really want to. It is really reminiscent of old games, quirks and all.

Echoes of the Abyss has that one quality from older games that I absolutely love – you have figure it out. Don’t get me wrong, with every game in existence there is this aspect of working out the mechanics, the strategy etc. But here I had several of those “ooooh” and “aha” moments, when it finally clicks, and it’s just AMAZING! You can call it clunky, for sure, but it’s good “clunkiness”, if you will. For example, before I learned that using the Bubble shield is essential to surviving, I was just dying in the first few minutes into the run. Or the upgrade system is made of small marbles that you have to put into sockets instead of pressing the buttons. It’s not standard rehashed ideas and mechanics, it’s something different.

Gameplay is quite easy to pick up, sound design is good, artstyle is charming but some visuals are a bit wonky though. It is def a cool game to play for 20-40min in the evening. You enter, give it a go, die a couple times and unwind.

More of these types of games please!!! It’s perfect in that it’s not perfect. It’s chaotic and keeps you engaged at all times. It’s simple, but hard to master. Gameplay Loop The overall gameplay loop is quite simple – you go into the world, you destroy oceanic life (or it’s in your imagination, not quite clear actually) and level up, while seeking for crates and chests to receive a random elemental power. Then you end up at a boss fight, kill the boss, and here we go again. If you die, you start over. You can eat enemies that are smaller than you. The sizes are often hard to eye-measure, this is the downside of the gameplay. But smaller enemies are highlighted with golden light, and bigger enemies are highlighted with red light. Abilities You can level up your size, you max health, speed, elemental resistances and your max stress level. You have 3 abilities that go on cooldown: Shield, Dash Shockwave. The strategic element of the game is when you choose the upgrades for those those 3 abilities. The game wants you to actively look for elemental upgrades in the world around you. You can find Fire, Frost, Electricity, Toxicity and Gravity–based Upgrades. And then you can enhance you Shield, Shockwave and Dash with those powers. Then, each time you use them, they do elemental damage. Permanent Upgrades During the run, you collect large gold coins of some kind. They are permanent, and you can transfer them to the statues in second location to receive Upgrades at the beginning of the run. So, each time, it becomes easier. All in all, it’s a charming little game. Loved it, it’s quite creative. Recommend it!
