Short puzzle platformer, but quite difficult. Good for those that like to suffer.

Short and sweet vania that gets a lot of mileage out of only 2 types of hazards (there is danger, but no combat). You begin with even less mobility than one might expect, and over the course of the game you unlock a few useful upgrades. The map is peppered with checkpoint/respawn bells and optional gold coins (which must be banked at a bell), and the game rarely asks you to pass through more than a few screens of danger between bells. The map is divided into a few regions that each prominently feature a particular mechanic. Each region houses one of the upgrades along with a challenging trial that tests your mastery over that upgrade. A basic clear can be achieved with a relatively small portion of the map explored, so a hefty portion of the game is optional. I chose to complete the trial gauntlets and collect all the coins, but I'm satisfied not trying for a deathless clear. I did find that some aspects of the movement felt a bit hard to get used-to -- • when you jump to a vine or ladder and try to grab on, there's nothing damping the horizontal movement and it's very easy to slip right off until you get used to releasing your directional input at the right moment. • the mobility features rely on "snapping" your character into a specific row of tiles, and even with practice it seems to require a tremendous amount of precision to reliably snap to the row you want. • when you gain the ability to have controlled descent, anything more than a brief tap will send you plummeting into the bottom of the screen, which likely means a death in most of the areas where you'd use this ability. The game is very charming overall. There are a few cheeky gotchas to make sure you're paying attention, but it never feels hostile. The map is also just small enough that I didn't dread backtracking for missed coins. Gems / 10

A charming little platformer with some excellent level design and unique platforming mechanics. I've never played a 2d platformer that so concisely captures a playstyle and builds upon it with so few elements. It's elegant without feeling anemic. The movement options all combine together in the end in a satisfying way, all while controlling well. An in-game map may be a requirement for some, but the world is small enough not to need it. Be warned though, there's some nail biting challenge within this hidden gem.

Really enjoying this game. Scratches the same itch as VVVVVV and Animal Well.

a very remarkable game. ran into this looking for short metroidvanias to play and i was not at all disappointed. this feels like the perfect "bite size" metroidvania. can be completed with just a few hours. the movement system and power ups are jank but just as fun to compensate. many a time i ran into room and thought "there is no way i could get through that even with a double jump (or other common metroidvania power ups)" only to return with the ones the game gave me and have it feel game breaking. but despite feeling game breaking, the difficulty will always rise to match your progress. also the VVVVVV influences are very prominent but this really stands on its own.

A lovely bite sized adventure. With every power the world opens up to you, although with only one button some actions overlaped which made a later power a little cumbersome to use. I liked it enough to get every coin.

Don't let the minimalist graphics dissuade you. Hollow Floor is a tight little game with some unique movement mechanics as well as clever and challenging (not quite) platforming sections.
