Not a critical review, but this mod needs attention from its developers.
-Game does not launch on Linux without a specific command in the Steam properties
-Aspect ratio options are broken, stretches beyond the screen
-Experienced some bugs so far, sound effects do not play upon scripted sequences
-Paid mod from just over 10 years ago, at 99 cents on sale I would make it free
Fix what's broken, maybe add Steam achievements for additional replay value, would easily recommend this mod to any Portal fan.

It is a great mod. It's one of the few portal mods that takes the world of aperture and truly makes something Unique with it. however, There are some downsides. At times it feels "This was a cool addition, lets add it!" without thinking on how it would affect the overall product. the waiting in vacuum tubes at the beginning, for no real reason other than to show off aperture, the fizzlers in tests that are separate for no reason other than "go through them!". Oftentimes I felt more frustrated than puzzled, some test didn't feel satisfying to complete, and the ending was not great. Overall, it's a very fun mod with a very fun mechanic. In my opinion, it should be free, but it's difficult to judge a $5 price. 7.5/10

Once again, wishing Valve would add a neutral option for reviews. This mod is okay.
The voice acting is really bad. Feels strange to make this a paid mod when it feels like zero effort went into the voice acting. Other mods that are 2-3 times longer have full voice acting that actually sounds good.
I think the concept is pretty cool, but I think this game also highlights the fact that gels are fun in Portal 2 because you get to combine them with portals. A game full of nothing but gels gets boring kinda quickly.
I really liked the "racing" level, where you have a timer and need to use the gels to race along what feels like a track. I actually think that's the highlight of this whole game, and I feel a full game made using only that concept would be pretty fun.
The chambers were also pretty easy. Combined with the fact you can gel almost any surface, it made it really easy to cheese a lot of the levels and complete them the wrong way. It was almost more fun to try and figure out how to solve the level the wrong way, rather than the correct way.

I enjoyed this what-feels-like Portal 2 DLC back in the day. It isn't a perfect game but it's a really cool concept, taking the minor thing introduced in Portal 2 and turning it into its own set of puzzles. This game is much longer than you would expect. It’s clear a lot of love was put into it for what it is. It’s already 5$ so I feel weird recommending that you get it on sale but that’s the way I would do it.

Get it on sale.
I like Aperture Tag. I know that this mod is very controversial, mainly due to it's price, but it's good fun. The paint gun opens up many interesting puzzles, and plenty of fun flings and jumps. The environments and story? Kind of lackluster, however, the gameplay is the most important factor, and this is one of the mod's strengths. There are some small issues with the gameplay, but there aren't many outstanding problems. The biggest problem is the £5 price tag, which is why I implore you to buy this as soon as it goes on sale. It's worth it, trust me.

Thank god this was only a dollar. Needlessly frustrating at points where the answer is right there and it's designed in a way to be annoying to make a simple jump. The platforming aspect really detracts from the puzzle solving aspect at times making me wonder if i did it wrong but no it was just a physics issue 80% of the time. Go play Portal Revolution instead it's much better.

The voice acting isn't the best but this was made in 2014, so it's okay compared to what it was!
I would have really liked if there had been a floor on the levels, but you can die so many times from miscalculated jumps that you'll be pressing F6 every 3 seconds to quick save!
But it's almost Valve quality! And the escape parts are fun but very frustrating! I don't know if I'm bad, but it's calculated to a few seconds! And the jumps are to the millimeter!
But I recommend it to all Portal fans!

Truly, truly awful. Don't pay for this shit, play Portal Stories: Mel instead.
If you DO want to play this mod, be ready for: mediocre voice acting, mediocre map design, no manual saves combined with a terrible autosave system that's infamous for creating softlocks (ESPECIALLY late game), uninteresting puzzles, and all for MONEY, rather than playing any other mod, and having at least an equally mediocre experience for FREE (or paly Mel and have a blast, your choice.)

Aperture Tag is an interesting take on Portal’s mechanics, focusing entirely on the gels from Portal 2. The idea of a gel gun is actually pretty neat and opens up some creative options for movement and puzzle design. One level in particular, the racing one, really stood out for me. It had a great flow and used the mechanics well under pressure.
That said, I can’t really recommend this mod, especially considering it’s a paid one. For 5€, I expect more than what essentially feels like a collection of workshop maps tied together by a very forgettable story. Honestly, the narrative feels so unnecessary, you could've just removed it altogether and nothing would’ve been lost.
While the chambers work and are fully functional, they’re way too easy. Since you can gel pretty much every surface, you can bypass puzzles without much effort.
Compared to something like Portal Stories: Mel, which came out for free just a year later and offered a longer, more immersive experience with better pacing, Aperture Tag falls pretty flat. Other free mods even manage to deliver stronger stories, better voice acting, and more cohesive puzzle design.
Voice acting here is okay, not terrible, but definitely not on the level of other Portal mods. And the ending? Absolutely not satisfying.
The concept has potential, and it’s not a bad mod. But as a paid product, it just doesn’t meet the bar.
5/10, if you absolutely love gel mechanics. Otherwise, you’re not missing much.
