Great twist on the tower defense genre. The beginning levels are fairly easy and then things ramp up nicely. It's short, but cheap and fun.

Very addicting game. Graphics are pretty. I love the artstyle. Soundtrack is good. It's also very polished. The game is obviously inspired by Thronefall but its gameplay and progression system are super different. 10/10

I love this game! I've only just started playing it but it's awesome! Great style - interesting dynamics for game play and an interesting puzzle element that keeps you figuring out how best to pass each level.

I'm a big fan of the tower defense game Thronefall and Rift Riff looked similar so I gave it a try. The concept is pretty simple: build different towers at defined locations, monsters waves start at defined locations and you've got to beat them all before they destroy your tower. A central hub between each level allows you to unlock new towers with prisms which you'll receive in a different amount after beating a level. During each level, you can build new towers, add additional upgrades to existing ones or take part in the fights. Each new tower or upgrade during a level costs juice which you'll receive over time or by collecting flowers. You might think, that the different towers allow a different style of gameplay. We'll more me that wasn't all in all the case. I beat the final boss without unlocking all towers (the game tells you otherwise before starting the level). The central hub allows you mostly to play the levels as you like so I backtracked and started to unlock other towers ... and that feels somehow off. For example, the Shrieker repells monsters and the level is build around it so you have to use it. Thereafter it became mostly obsolete. And this applies to other towers, too, like Gatling turret and Longshot turret which are offset by the regular Turret. The towers I used:
I mostly used the Slower, the regular rapid firing Turret, the Sniper for heavy damage, the Nova for freezing and the Obelisk for distracting monsters.
And the towers itself feel somehow off, too. Most of them are good for low to mid-tier enemies. But killing the big one needs heavy hitters like the Sniper. Unfortunately the Sniper attacks all units and not the ones with the most hitpoints. So it can happen that it wastes its (very slow) damage on low tier mobs while the big ones rumble across the map. The Obelisk distracts monster so they attack it first before your base. We'll if they out of range from the spawn points the monsters ignore them and attack your base immediately. Good luck with that when all of your defense is placed at the Obelisk! I think the developers had a specific idea of which combination of towers you should use for a specific level. It's only my guess and I think this doesn't work because the specialst towers become obsolete so fast. In theory you could start a level with the Shrieker (repells enemies), the Slower, the Obelisk and the cheap, low damage dealing basic tower – nobody would do that. The controls a fine and easy to learn. The simplistic graphics style is appealing. Unfortunately the monsters are mostly undefined blobs which only vary in size so it is hard to tell what monster is actually attacking, but you can check it out at the beginning of each wave. During the fights it is quite hard to tell. Conclusion: Rift Riff has its flaws. But all in all it is a good game if you like tower defense. I got pretty fast into it and the levels feel challenging. Each level takes not very long so failing doesn't feel overly frustrating and the progress is fast. It doesn't has the depth of Thronefall but beating a level is rewarding. All in all: recommended.

honestly the best non-track tower defence i've played. not only is it beautiful and sounds amazing but the fact that you can refund towers between waves at no cost to move things around is amazing for a casual gamer. 10/10 no notes, just more.

A good tower defense game if you're looking to relax. There's rarely any frustrating or head scratching moments and it's forgiving to experiment a lot. The challenge modes can really engage with the mechanics, but I decided that they weren't for me.

As a Tower Defense style game goes, this one is really well done and offers puzzle solving as a part of its strategy. This game is worth a go.

This is a lovely game and I hope it gets super popular being bundled with Thronefall, which I didn't even play yet because I got hooked on this game. It's a very chill TD game, not too crazy difficult and it is wonderful to replay each level like 4 times due to the challenges that are in it. It really makes you think about the strengths and weaknesses, as well as the synergies, of each tower. It's a very clever game with a cute art style. Playing with a controller feels very smooth, and pretty unique in this genre. Highly recommend this!
