Kinda bummed to give this a Not Recommended, because I loved everything apart from the combat, but since that's the main attraction to an FPS, I believe it falls short of expectations. I really dig the whole aesthetic and the original (or, at least, not-very-exploited) idea of an FPS controlled with only a mouse, I loved the cinematics and the not-in-you-face humor the game has sometimes. I loled at the sudden loud table hit in the first cutscene. However, even though the gimmick of the game is to control everything only with the mouse, the controls are terrible for my taste, specifically the shooting mechanic. In close quarters combat (most of the encounters), enemies move a lot, so you're constantly aiming and moving. This makes the cursor move, so every time you want to shoot, you have to move the cursor to the weapon and click, then move it to "reload" (can't say the actual word on Steam) on another part of the weapon, then move your character again and aim, and then move the cursor again to shoot. I played in easy mode and while it totally is a skill issue, I kept dying because of this. There's a simple fix for this though, make it so that when the player moves the character (holding RMB), the cursor is fixed to the last position you left it at. This way you can move, aim and shoot at the same time if you left the cursor on top of the weapon. The manual "reloading" mechanic I dislike specifically for the revolver, as it's not as strong of a weapon as the shotgun so it doesn't need that kind of nerfing, but because of that my entire run has been SMG-dependant, which sucks because the other weapons are interesting too. Also, allowing the players to use the mousewheel to change the item being held would be much apprecitated. Health in the game is integrated in a fun way (I really like the whole feeding and patching up animations and mechanic), but the health these items give you is insanely low. I've had to repeat entire segments more than 5 times because I was left with 5% of health and the only health item I had near only gave me 5% more, and then I'd have to survive 6 enemies with only 10% of health. Speaking of enemies, hate that red guy, but most importantly, I was left wanting more types, or at least skins. There's a beautiful snow level after the first one but the enemies still wear the green and red suits from the first level. These guys must have never heard of camouflage. The game also fails to communicate when you take damage, which makes for funny but frustrating situations where you're reading a note, hear a dog bark somewhere near, and then realize it's been attacking you for the last couple of seconds because there is no feedback to tell you "Hey, you're getting mauled, maybe stop reading or something". A simple red screen would do the trick. Also, the same thing can be said for "reloading" or out-of-ammo. There's no sound to indicate your weapon hasn't bugged because it's not shooting, but rather you have to "reload" it or find more ammo. I think a simple "click" sound effect when trying to shoot and the ammo text flashing yellow when out could go a long way. Overall, I really want to give the game a go again because I left at the space station level frustrated with the shooting controls but it looked interesting and it had me hooked. Dev, if you're reading and are up to fixing the issues I commented, especially the cursor locking when moving, I'd love to finish the game and change the review into a Recommended. Cheers.
