Adds some good features, but it absolutely is not worth $10. This (like most Paradox dlc) should've been part of the base game as a free update or something.

Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 169: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆☆ (7/10) Europa Universalis IV: Wealth of Nations is a focused DLC that enhances the economic side of empire-building. While it doesn’t revolutionize gameplay like some later expansions, it offers meaningful improvements for trade-focused nations and a more active approach to economic warfare. Still, its narrow scope and eventual obsolescence due to later DLCs may make it less exciting for non-trade empires or newcomers. 💰 Pros:

Privateering adds offensive economic strategy. This DLC makes trade more than just passive income. You can send light ships to privateer in enemy trade nodes, siphoning wealth and damaging rivals' income. It opens up peacetime harassment tactics, especially useful for smaller or coastal nations trying to punch above their weight.
Trade companies expand economic play. Designating overseas provinces as trade companies improves goods production and grants extra merchants. While more powerful in later expansions, this was the foundation for colonization-focused economic empires. Playing a colonial Portugal or Britain becomes far more rewarding with this system.
Muslim trade boosts. Muslim and Indian Ocean nations gain slight but meaningful improvements, encouraging maritime playstyles. This is especially helpful for nations like the Mamluks, Kilwa, or Gujarat, letting them compete with Western powers in the economic arena.
New trade-focused decisions and mechanics. The DLC includes national decisions, policy options, and even canals like the Suez or Panama (though mostly late-game), giving you new long-term goals. They help diversify strategies, particularly for economic or tall empires.
Integrates well with the base game. Unlike some mechanical overhauls, *Wealth of Nations* layers onto the vanilla trade system cleanly. It won’t confuse newer players too much and doesn’t bloat the UI. If you understand trade basics (not a given!), you’ll benefit from this DLC immediately.
📊 Cons:

Narrow scope, limited appeal. If you play landlocked or militaristic nations, this DLC will feel like it adds almost nothing. It’s best suited for coastal, colonizing, or merchant-oriented empires.
Canals are neat in theory, but barely relevant. Building Suez, Panama, or Kiel canals sounds epic, but in most campaigns you’ll never reach that point—or justify the enormous cost. It’s a cool feature with limited practical use.
Privateering can escalate conflicts too easily. Stealing trade power may trigger unwanted wars. If you're not prepared for a military response, privateering can backfire and leave you vulnerable.
