Twin Sector is an ancient game from 2009. It's a whopping 16 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for the typical features of modern gaming PCs, hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on contemporary machines. The game looks and feels dated. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an old game. This seems to have be lingering on Steam with an inflated price to try profit from abandonware. On the upside, the game does feature customisable controls and resolution, so at least some of the basic, minimum requirements have been met. Unfortunately there's a number of other technical defects and shortcomings which contribute to the game being difficult to recommend to gamers. You even get 4K support, but before you grab your credit card to buy this, the developer doesn't know about drop down menus. The game starts at 720p Windowed mode. So you need to click through the resolutions one at a time, for each refresh rate at 720p, until you get to the next highest resolution... and repeat... until you get all the way up to 4K. It takes longer to configure the graphics for this game than it does to complete it. The game itself had some potential, despite rather poor production values for a 2009 game (Well, it's from HeadUp, this is not a triple-A publisher). You interact with the world with left and right mouse buttons as you have some powers or whatever... it's just too dated feeling and lacks engagement, with C grade writing, dated assets... When you play this game the first thing you think is you could be playing something better. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 18 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 110,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 110,000+ games on Steam? Twin Sector is relatively expensive for an abandonware nostalgia gouge, at $5 USD, and it's not worth it. The game is just too old, hasn't been modernised. And as the old saying goes, you can't go home again. Even when it was new, this was never a triple-A game. This is the kind of game that went almost directly from the warehouse into the cheap bargain bins at the front of the shop. Now, on Steam, without any modernisation? This is impossible to recommend. For comparison, the $5 asking price for this game could get you games like "Metro Last Light", "Sleeping Dogs" or "Rainbow 6 Siege". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this. Unfortunately Steam reviewers aren't presented with a "Maybe" option... if they did, that's what I'd choose. This isn't a completely bad game, but it's also not one of the best. As always, if you read my review and you can overlook the negatives I've called out, or they just aren't important to you, then by all means go ahead and buy this.
