a nice re imagining of the original with 3d graphics instead of its original 2d art its a fun game but it definitely has its share of bugs and glitches but overall still a fun game

To preface this, for awhile now I had an inch to find an ARPG that reminded me of Curse of Darkness without just pulling out the PS2 and playing Curse of Darkness. This game is the closest I've gotten to scratching that itch but I've got a few issues. Creature leveling is pretty... slow. Experience is awarded based on actions creatures take but in every single case you have to aggressively "game" the system by just watching them slowly beat things to death (if they even have an attack). If they don't have an attack you're stuck getting in combat potentially using a monster who is effectively immortal and making dinner while they slowly grind their experience up enough to learn an offensive move. There is, as far as I could see anyways, absolutely no reasonable way to increase experience share. Creature customization is likewise limited. There's no determinism or even reaching predictive foresight, you roll the dice to see what flavor of 10 (but really 5) passives the monster will even see are. The system is novel as a concept, but limiting in execution. Want a particular combo? You're not getting it. Character actions are pretty limited. If you want the high-rise-like jumping attack, the enemy has to be in the air already. There's a bit of a delay between one jump and another, and gratuitous amounts of ending lag. It doesn't make the game more or less hard, it's just stiff. There doesn't seem to be real damage gates. As a result, attacks that are like shock-waves can instantly kill things hit at the right distance in seconds. This compounds the interaction of dealing with your monsters as babysitting. Having dabbled a little in the challenge modes, it's a bit disheartening how much easier (and blander) the game becomes when you disregard the monsters (barring ones already trained up). The lack of damage gates makes itself very known when you start exploiting them. Finally, I've experienced more than a few crashes when summoning monsters. In a game that is (attempting to be) about summoning monsters, this is a bit of a problem.
