"To fight beside a man so driven by personal gain and glory is a hard thing, Edward. And I have come to feel the Assassins - and their creed - a more honourable course."
Stifled Cry
Freedom Cry is a strange experiment: a DLC disguised as a standalone game, much like Blood Dragon back in the day.
But unlike that neon-soaked madness, this cry for freedom ends up trapped in its own cage.
Adewale, dons the hood to lead his own crusade.
Story: Promise, rage and disappointment
At first, Adewale seems like an incredible protagonist: sharp, composed, strategic.
But as the missions unfold, that image crumbles.
He becomes impulsive, consumed by anger, and his character arc loses strength.
Ironically, the supporting cast (like Bastienne or the rebel leader) end up being more memorable than him.
That said, the anti-slavery message is present and does hit hard at times.
But often, the game seems afraid to dig deeper.
Gameplay and Content: A small map, a clear cause
This isn’t your traditional Assassin’s Creed.
The map is small. The missions are few. The collectibles are within reach.
And honestly? That’s not a bad thing.
Sometimes a focused, no-fluff experience is exactly what you need.
Going for 100% completion and doing the side content ends up being the most satisfying part of the game.
Conclusion
Freedom Cry isn’t a bad game, is fine as a DLC, just that.
It doesn’t fully justify being a standalone title.
It has heart, it means well…
But it never truly gets it right.

Freedom Cry is a standalone expansion to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, telling the story of Adéwalé — a former slave who becomes an assassin and ship captain. The game takes place in the Caribbean, with a strong focus on the fight against slavery.
It offers a shorter but emotionally powerful campaign centered around freeing slaves and fighting oppression. The gameplay is similar to Black Flag but with a much more serious and somber tone. Freedom Cry stands out for its impactful message and unique perspective within the Assassin’s Creed universe.

Short and sweet, I would honestly advise just doing story missions and avoiding any open world content at all, none of it is enjoyable and none of it made the game any more entertaining.

one the best stand alone tie in as it allows you play as Adewale adding to his character as a whole only wish the game was longer and had a story that lasted longer then it did. I would still replay even after fully completing it.

CEO disapproves Stop Killing Games with misinformation. You play dirty, I accept in kind. With what little I can do.
This game is acceptable but with no sea shanties making a direct downgrade. This is a game about piracy. If you want to play, I recommend you fully immerse yourself in piracy
