After many late nights and weekends, I finally finished the vanilla game on the US West Coast map. Just when I was about to enjoy sleep again, I stumble across this Grand Campaign which takes my vanilla addiction and amps it up to higher levels of amphetamines than consumed by German forces during the panic of D-Day.
The ability to import my core units during all subsequent DLC (German WW2 war years) makes my bed wonder if I still exist...

This game reminded me of the game American Civil war from Sierra back then, except its not musket and cannon, but rather Infantry, tanks, artillery, planes and so on. I did actually like the game for its slow pace turn base system where every move counts, if you like that kind of a game. Its also a great history lesson and the ability to change the course of history, I purchase the whole game including the DLC . I have no regrets got it on sale, so its a good deal. I also heard that part 2 of panzer corps is coming out. Looking forward to it.

Grand Campaing 39 takes you through Poland and Norway. Commanding a German army you go through these countries and try to win each mission. Depending on how you do, like earning a normal victory or a decisive one, you might face different missions. The missions themselves are fun, the units you use look great and so do the enemy units. I especially liked the Polish armoured train.
+Very fun early war units. German, Polish, you can see some Soviet units if you do one of the optional missions and more.
+Maps are nice. Because of Norwegian terrain with its mountains I couldn't even use any tanks there, I had to mainly use infantry and I enjoyed that.
+The missions themselves are fun. It can be hard but you can easily change your settings a bit and make it easier for yourself.
+You can do the Grand Campaing 40 with the units you have here. Your units fight, gain experience, become veterans, earn awards and at the end of the campaing... Its not over. There are more campaings and your units here can fight in those campaings. So make sure to keep em alive.
Very fun campaing. I enjoyed it.

Panzer Corps: Grand Campaign '39 is the first of the grand campaign DLCs for Panzer Corps. Like the other Grand Campaign DLCs, it focuses on a specific time period of the war, here 1939 and early 1940, seen from the perspective of the German forces.
I'm going to assume that anyone reading this review is already familiar with the core game. The DLC does not change any of the core mechanics, so anyone who enjoys the main game is likely to enjoy this DLC, and anyone who did not like the core game won't change their mind after having played this. What changes to the mechanics that does exist are minor.
Grand Campaign '39 has a grand total of 14 scenarios, though at 3 points during the campaign, your actions will determine which scenario you'll play, so a playtrough will only be of 11-12 scenarios. The scenarios hold a very high quality, greater than that of the core game, and offer a good amount of variety. During the invasion of Poland you'll have to deal with mostly open or hilly terrain, and the levels offers many different approaches. The last 3 levels, which take place in Norway, are more narrow, and you can't advance as fast due to both water and mountains being in the way.
The scenario are also designed in such a way that it shows that the Polish army was not helpless, and it does not perpetuate the myth of the Polish cavalry charging tanks with their swords or lances because they thought they were trucks with planks on them (this myth actually started as German propaganda, that was meant to show their "superiority", and for some reason it's still something that kids learn in school).
Final Thought
Overall, I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoyed Panzer Corps. You get 14 well designed scenarios for 5€, and your save carries over to the next DLC, Grand Campaign '40.
