I want to like this game. But the save system is so frustrating. I don't know how many times I've lost progress because it's so jacked up. And if you load a save, why does it auto save that spot OVER another old save? By the end of a bad day you have 4 saves all of the same spot. Ugh, and from the looks of the discussions this is going to be one of those games where the devs keep fkn around with the game well after 1.0, changing things that you got used to for hours. It's 1.5 something now and they are talking about changing all kinds of stuff. Cool cool cool.

The new testbranch customer system plummets my sales to approx. 5% of what they were before the update. I can't make any money anymore, since customers have set budgets now that make forging expensive weapons useless and limit the player to only forge very specific weapons following very specific demands. Sure you can forge whatever you want, but nobody is ever gonna buy it. Have fun making 2k Loha daggers and swords forever...

The game is fun and has an interesting story, definitely worth playing if it interests you. Here for the critiquing, your skills and rate of improvement in weapon smithing plateau very quickly, and weapon design has limitations. It lacks new forging methods, materials, and resources for any noticeable game progression in making better weapons, especially on the design aspect if that's the way they want you to get better. The prices on your weapons don’t always make sense; the only thing that matters is the material used, noting nothing about its performance or design. Hard metals that take a long time to forge give you less money than the super soft metal you can make weapons out of in 2 seconds. I understand they wanted some weapons to sell well and some to be made for the arena, but I feel like it has a lot of empty gimmicks and should mainly focus on the story and blacksmiths as the base for now, as it feels limited. Lots of the new upgrade parts don’t even give any benefits, and pommels only make a difference in weight—use the lightest for cutting and the heaviest for piercing. Any new ideas I personally would like to see after they have added more depth in the story and actual smithing system. it might be fun to add more fantasy materials and maybe even the ability to slay some monsters for drops, considering you can use the weapons you make and wear armor, even though this is currently useless for the player. They should expand the mining area for this purpose where you can move around a bit more and get new resources and such that you normally can’t just buy. delve more into the relation in the the besides just the empty relationship system that don,t actually impact anything opening up the world a little or more customizability in your forge/house

This game feels confused as to what direction it should be. Does it want to be a story-driven RPG? Kind of. But dialogue sucks, and there's not much the player can do to investigate or explore to give them more hints or story devices that would help them make a decision only then to realize that it was a bad decision and just soft locks you to force you into a fresh run. Does it serve the "I wanna be a blacksmith itch"? Kind of. However, the entire process is more of a tedious repetition of clicks, poorly designed UI that hurts your eyes, and a skill tree that gives little perks but to maybe ease the tedium just a bit. Overall, at its current state, (version 1.4.1) Medieval Blacksmith is a good idea but executed in the most clunkiest of ways. It is a gross waste of time and money, and I hope the development of this project focuses on refining the blacksmithing portion first by upgrading shallow and tedious mechanics then the story later, because let's face it. It's a blacksmithing game, but if you're locked into the thought of that it should strictly be a tedious clicker, then I'd rather play a clicker game.

I had a bad experience and requested a refund but that doesn't mean everyone will. The core gameplay of making weapons at the smithy is pretty satisfying. It's fun to go from ores all the way to a fully functioning weapon. Where the game fell apart for me was really just everything else which I will list below in pros/cons: Pros: - Weapon smithing is very satisfying - There is a small mine you can go to to get ores which was kind of cool Cons: - Typos everywhere - Shop signs are written in gibberish and you need to rely on logos to tell what's what - Relationship bonuses are repeatable over and over in the same conversations. Can you even check how good your relationship with an npc is? Does it even matter? - Dialog seems like an after-thought and feels really thin. NPCs have very weird reactions to dialog choices sometimes and there's a ton of swearing for no reason - Your character cannot jump - If you don't pay the landlord in the beginning as a dialog option, it can just end the game and make you start over entirely which is what happened to me. I thought it was like an "edgy" dialog option because she was a real jerk and other npcs were making fun of me for saying I would pay rent like she asked, so I decided to say I wouldn't pay and the game just ended and made me restart from the beginning. What? Summary: The core mechanic of blacksmithing is a lot of fun. It is very satisfying to make a weapon as high quality as you can get it and to then sell it for profit. Everything else in this game seems very thin, like they were trying to just add anything and everything to the game once the blacksmithing mechanic was completed. Everything else just seems like it was randomly dropped in there later on in some update or something and sometimes can seem out of place. TLDR; Get the game for the blacksmithing, everything else you'll either really enjoy or just be annoyed by.

The blacksmith simulator genre has been limping along with bug riddled/completely abandoned games. This game is the exception, as it is relatively stable and also well polished. The story is surprisingly good, and the blacksmithing feels realistic and really enjoyable. Choices you make with your "special" customers have an impact on the outcome of the game. There's also an arena that you can arm gladiators with your creations to see how they fare in combat. It's still early access so there are still some issues, but nothing game breaking. The developer is very responsive in the discussion forum on steam, and they are actively working on bug fixes and improvements. The biggest complaint I've seen is there is a part of the game where you can make a choice, that will result in you dying the next time you sleep, and some very unlucky people didn't have a save from before making that choice which required them to start over. Also, there is a heavy weapon design that is extremely overpowered in the arena to the point where it doesn't feel intended by the developers. But as is, the game is great, and I'm really looking forward to future updates.
