Just finished my first play through, which I *think* was pretty thorough. Honestly, it made me think of what would happen if Tunic (which I liked) and Mother (a series I loved) had a child, and the lucky little bugger got some of the best of both parents. It has an open world, simple Zelda-inspired combat, and does very little explaining/hand-holding on one hand, and a brilliant sense of absurd humour, memorable NPCs, and a story that will tug at your heart-strings on the other. There were, admittedly, a few minor things I didn't love. I found myself annoyed going from point a to point b, and wishing there were a "run" button or some sort of fast-travel. The combat wasn't bad, but it wasn't exactly where the game shone, especially with the lack of items/options (hit it with your sword, and that's it). Nevertheless, I feel very happy to recommend this to anyone looking for something thoughtful, alternately humorous and poignant, and well worth the low price. Incidentally, big ups to the solo dev who created this. I definitely look forward to more.

Afterplace is a refreshingly unique zelda-like that soared above my expectations. It's got witty dialogue, a surprisingly emotional story, and an interconnected world map full of secrets that ties everything together with a beautiful, otherworldly bow. While it was over too soon, my time with Afterplace has stood tall above almost every other game I've played this year. I encourage all lovers of original, heartfelt gaming experiences to give Afterplace a try.

This game is very cute, and the interactions between characters are greatly entertaining. The game is easy to play, and there are many secrets and mysteries to solve. Not a whole lot of moral decisions, so it's a nice break from RPGs with more freedom of choice.

Absolutely delightful and extremely impressive for a solo dev. The map is full of interesting secrets, the characters are well-written and amusing, and the game is both forgiving of mistakes while still demanding the player pay attention and explore.

Lovely little game. The atmosphere is exactly what I wanted, reminiscent of Kirby mixed with Yume Nikki. Generally bright and cheerful with some mysterious vibes and the occasional turn into light horror. From the list of achievements it's clear there's lots I didn't see in my playthrough, but I'll leave them for another time. I'm pretty happy with the ending I got even though there are a few points that were left ambiguous, presumably because I didn't take the right path through the story to get more details on them. If there's one complaint I have, the controls are somewhat odd. Using the shoulder button to cycle through dialogue options allows you to move during dialogue, but that doesn't really come up at all, so it feels like a more typical dialogue system would have worked better. You also can't remap the attack button without also remapping the "confirm" option for menus and such, which is a shame.
