This game doesn't take any prisoners. It's rough at the start, for sure. But stick with it, and it's worth the payoff.
Is it the "Dark Souls" of Raiden games? No.

I'd highly recommend against this one, although for the content available, it's not a large amount of money too misplaced if this sort of game is your thing, it's fun for a short bit but extremely shallow.
I like the presentation, the game style, the game-play loop, but it's all rather shallow and not so well executed. The unlocks and abilities are pretty un-inventive. There is some fun ability modifications and the 4 weapons you get are generally pretty fun, but that's all you get, and the modifiers don't really change their functionality much. The game is the same game-play loop, every loop. Same boss, types of enemies in the same waves. For a semi-bullet hell, the patterning of bullets are pretty poor or not thought out too. The meta upgrades are basically just stat increases, by tiny increments, you can get extremely far in the game with no meta upgrades, the interval values for upgrades are low too, so it feels very unrewarding to repeat runs, which is one of the main draws of a rouge-lite. So you basically play the same game over and over, only thing changing is minor permutations of the same 4 weapons.
It's fun for a very short time, but that's at the face value, repeat runs are unrewarding and repetitive. If you want a short bit of shmup fun, the cost isn't much and it's competent. If you want a re-playable experience, spending more money on a better product would be personally advised.
As a post note, something that didn't inspire much trust/confidence in the dev; the literal moment you start the game, over-layered on the main menu is a note from the dev, effectively saying, "... I'll keep an eye on the game, and if it get's popular, I will continue to develop". To me, this reads as an unwitting admittance to a lack of willing or planned support/development to the game past an arbitrary gate of attention. Given it's current lack of depth, that doesn't inspire confidence in worthiness of money being spent on a digital product like this. As if to say "I only care to continue to develop the early access game you bought, if you folks give it enough attention". But, that's simply my own take on a small observation.
