Really cool concept!
I wanna say first things first, the way the monster moves is super creepy and the way the game is explained sorta felt like a scary movie when it cuts off and leaves cliff hangers.
That can be a good and a bad thing though.
It really left me terrified but it also left me without direction, for example, I was told to "contain the enemy" but never told how, or they never brought attention to mechanics that would contain it.
The area was very large, which is cool for scale purposes, but when you only have 2 enemies and youre only looking for one item (the keycard to the next floor) 10's of rooms is kinda excessive.
I've never made a game before but maybe reduce it (significantly) to a couple rooms per floor, explain important information fully and only let cliff hangers exist when either A. we are given enough explanation to complete the tasks and a clear path forward or B. you're just cutting off plot and not actual necessary mechanics.
As far as the computer goes, i like typing but im never gonna remember what to type or want to spend that much time in a horror scenario realistically typing things out, maybe just using the up and down arrow to select a prompt or making them as simple as possible like "A for audio check and V for video check"
also it seemed a little obnoxious (but not too bad) to switch between all the different things at the desk (Again, it's not bad just could use some polishing, actually worked kinda well imo)
And clearly splitting between desk time and free roam time, maybe you maintain the monsters through some mechanic at the pc and after a little while there's some kind of objective change and the computers become unusable to help guide the player, sorta like different segments of the game, my main thinking is that if i cant do anything from the pc, and theres always monsters lurking, then im never gonna use them if that makes sense.
Another thought I just has is maybe you could even separate the floors, like you manage the monster contained on floor one so youre not overwhelmed, and get to learn his mechanics while you complete objectives in order to find the keycard and contain him to floor 1, then you move on to floor 2 with a new monster, again, clearly dividing the different sections in some way, maybe using the computer in the inbetween sections and then swapping back to free roam.
Overall really good concept, takeaways:
- FAR less map space to help guide player
- More descriptive descriptions on everything including mechanics (No cliff hangers there)
- Maybe an objective telling us how to do these things "trap monster using cage on 2nd floor"
- Monster was good, I liked the design, movement, and tension from it
- Idk if I would buy this for money, atm it needs a lot more polish, Don't plan on refunding just to help support the creator because there's so much potential here but keep these notes in mind^
- Potentially more clearly splitting between different functional segments of the game, reducing the overwhelming and completely lost feeling, I understand being thrown into a job with no training but this just felt like I had no reason to complete the objective, or even a clear picture of what the objective was other than dont die. No "Survive until 6" "Find the key to escape" "Fight this main enemy"
- I really do like the concept of the game, there's a ton of potential here
My yt is https://www.youtube.com/@SnowyBlizzard and I'll put a video up of me playing the game for the first time soon if you want that as a reference too :) Thank you for making a super cool game!
