Really enjoyable deck builder with good variety of commanders, cards, and encounters that keep each run feeling unique. Excited to see where this game goes from here!

Only play this game if you like feeling frustrated and upset a good portion of your playtime. It can be fun, and other times it just is an hour of no fun at all. You are just helpless as you get crushed, no choices could have helped. My first run, I beat it all the way to the end first try. Second run, trying some crappy dwarves, absolutely annihilated by the 1st boss and no choices I made could have made the slightest difference. As many others have said, no balance, not enough ways to mitigate rng. After winning the first run, I only got enough meta-progression to get like 1/6 of the way to ONE reroll in the future. Sorry, not looking to make a new career out of getting randomly crushed just to maybe make some progress.

A lot of people have been complaining on here that the bosses are too difficult, and at first I would of agreed, but the more I play this game the more I realize that it was just a skill problem. This game is very similar to slay the spire on the surface, but it plays very differently. A lot of the relics and cards are nearly identical, but because of the set up of combat in this game, it plays very differently. Slay the spire is a much harder game than this one. People complain about the rng, and while the card pool may be too big, you just have to adapt just like every other game in this genre. I have found most of the bosses to be too easy and find myself having bigger problems with the elite fights. The bosses are very consistant in how they play so you can just play around them. The bigger problem I have with this game is the fact that it is a rouge-lite when it didn't need to be. The upgrades between runs feel unneeded but, they do make the rng less of a problem. I feels strange, but it does allow you to escape relics that feel like they could make your run worse. I would definitely recommend this game especially to the recent changes to human, making it feel more unique. The game does need some balance improvements, but it is definitely not as bad as the reviews say it is. Learn the game, the synergies, because there are a lot of interesting ones, and you will have a blast.

It would be nice if there were more than 3 levels to go through and also I wish I had something more to do with the embers you earn (hopefully those are things to come). But the game still has enough variance to keep it re-playable. The complaints on difficulty are definitely exaggerated. RNG is a part of roguelikes, the whole point is to die to unlock more things to get stronger to get farther. So yes there are some runs where you lose to it, but most of the time your fate is largely in your hands (44 clears and counting) . The new recent cards have been awesome, the duplicating cavalry unit is crazy!

Going to address the claims about the game being unbalanced and unfair. The game can feel that way until you do about 2-3 runs and then all of a sudden you're the boss battle. I haven't played any other deckbuilder that simultaneously scratches my 4x game itch + my slay the spire and hearthfire itch at the same time. I find this game to be outstanding and addictive due to the infinite variety of card combinations you can pull off. They don't shy away from the rule of cool and let you build the craziest game breaking decks i've ever seen for example: I had a dragon that grew as it defeated enemies and I had a card called the faceless one that clones the last unit card you've played. I also had a relic that spawned one additional unit with each summon. Needless to say I could have 4 full dragons simply show up on the field without elaborating, lastly I had a card that let me EXPLODE units that were on fire, and my dragons were fire breathing...... This game slaps harder than dads from the 60's and I can't recommend it enough even the demo outperforms most stuff that's out nowadays.

Ridiculous final boss ruins an otherwise engaging game. It simply stalls you with a long path and units that take next to no damage while hitting your hero for face damage repeatedly and stealing your strongest units. Absurdly stupid design choice that goes against the rest of the game's deck-building philosophy to create artificial difficulty.

This is the most unbalanced "roguelike" game I've ever experienced. There is no cohesion between units, there are no synergies, everything is pulled from a gigantic random pot of cards that have little to no linkage between each other rather than in name only. The few that do, you'll never obtain because the game would rather pool in cards like the plimbus monkey or the skarsian centipede (neither of these cards exist in any sort of "set" they're just random 3 mana cards with 1/1 stats). There is no balanced risk/reward mechanics, just risk without payoff. Better to avoid the "unknown" events because they're all known, and they all suck save for one or two. I think the most laughable event is one that leaves you punished no matter what illusion of choice you make. Every single boss has a bullshit mechanic it'll pull out of its ass, and the entire game is spent watching enemies outscale you as you scramble to augment a single card to live more than 3 seconds after placement. tldr; not even worth $10 unless you're addicted to frustratingly patchworked hodge-podge roguelikes and wasting hours of your life in failed attempts to find something that works, pure RNG kneecapping you ever step of the way.

It's enjoyable, with a lot of content for a game still being developed, however there is a lot of straight up BS that will just end your run instantly. For instance, theirs one battle where the enemy will summon like 20 max level dragons and inst kill You. Its ended 2 separate runs for me, and its beyond annoying. I hope as the game gets more updates, it'll improve as its quite charming in its style.

demo was fun, full game is a mess of incredibly poor development choices, bad balance, and runs relying solely on rng on a completely open pot... and those ever important upgrades? some of them do nothing, that great card you want to do more? nope. no change. doesnt even increase base stats. low quality developer.

Verdict: Great Roguelike Deckbuilder that gets a bit too easy once you understand it. + Positives + + Steam achievements (63, some are grindy) + Love the art style + 2 races with unique mechanics and cards + 5 heroes (each with 3 Commander Skills and 3 Starter Relics to pick from) + Solid soundtrack + Game mechanics are very clean and easy to pick + 3 player profiles + Penance has some interesting twists + Bosses and Danger battles are well done + Devs are communicating and there are promises of future content - Negatives - - No steam trading cards - The balance is simply not there (very clean power difference between heroes, relics ...) - The game needs more events and cards. It is incredibly easy right now to go for the same build every game - Meta upgrades are boring (more hp, more rerolls ...)
