You've heard of the Trolley Problem, one of the most well-known philosophical problems, but have you heard of Buridan's Donkey or the Famous Violinist? Explore these and more thought experiments surrounding both ethics and logic.
Thought Experiment Simulator is a short puzzle adventure game that gives a quick overview of some of the most common thought problems. Each level is dedicated to a scenario with its own unique gimmick in the form of the puzzle. Before each level, there is an optional short skit involving three influential thinkers across the ages, from ancient Greek philosophers to modern feminists. These little dialogs elaborate about the deeper meanings behind each thought experiment and some of the different conclusions provided from different viewpoints.
As a quick exposure to some of the common thought experiments, I think it succeeded. The art style is simply cute, but not to the extent of it feeling cheap. The little pre-level scripts are a bit wordy, but they also help flesh out the meaning behind each scenario further than the surface level. Each level has a unique minigame that seems to be relevant enough to the presented concept. There is even a little bit of out-of-the-box thinking in each level with hidden achievements revolving around "answering" the problem unorthodoxically. There is even a Wario Ware-esque mode where you solve simplified versions of the minigames, which is a cute addition.
However, there are some minor annoyances. Because each level has a unique gimmick, some minigames are more immediately connecting with the presented concept while some simply there to attach a game to the level. Simlarly, some of the Wario Ware minigames are much easier than the other (but the mode is still fairly easy, so not too big a deal). Finally, while I didn't have problems with the narrator's quips (especially for what I assume is not a high budget game), I can see how some people may find his dialog and humor grating and forced.
Overall, 8.5/10. It's a labor of love without sacrificing gameplay quality. Fun 1-2 hour experience.
