Masterwork? No. Enjoyable? Definitely. You are not supossed to spend hours and hours in a row, but if you are bored and have a few minutes to take your mind away from boredom, this is for you.

The replayability with many unlockable heroes makes the game fun to pickup again and play for a couple of minutes. Took me some time to find the strategy that worked for me and then you have to find the strategy that works for the hero of your choice. Simple concept but quite a lot of possibilities with hero x companion x item x trinket permutations.

I got a lot of fun out of Dice & Fold for a fairly small price tag. In about 12 hours of play, I have unlocked and beaten the game with every character--and there are a lot of them. Each one has a unique ability that will make you slightly tweak your approach to gameplay, but nothing world-shaking. This game was great to play while also watching TV or watching my partner play Cyberpunk or Long Dark or whatever was on the living room TV. I recommend it if you're thinking of playing it similarly, but not if you are looking for a super intricate, super challenging roguelike.

So, I wanted to like this game. The artstyle is cute, the work they put into is very admirable, and the amount of content added after release is unlike most games of this genre. However, I have some complaints that made my first run very boring almost immediately. The main issue I had was with the slow pace of the game. Not the mechanics, but the load times that kept me from just using dice when I was ready, I had to wait for the game over and over. This became especially mind-numbing at the final boss of my first run, the Hydra, where I was using Jack's special ability to duplicate tons of dice in order to kill the heads, and then increase my total dice number to kill the main body. Problem #1: Every time I put a dice in, it made me wait multiple seconds to put another dice in. Whether I dragged or pressed on the slot, it took a full minute of pressing one button to use all my dice. Why is there a cooldown? Problem #2: Why on gods green earth do the Hydra Heads regenerate AND attack in the same turn? What the hell was the point of killing them? Theres nothing I can do to prevent the heads from regenerating while I attack the main body, sure thats fair. If I can't kill the main body in time to prevent the heads from coming back, thats fair too. But having them attack before they've even regenerated is feels horrible, it's punishing me for even interacting with a cool mechanic. And doesn't tell me that in the description of the enemy either, so how am I supposed to know beforehand? All in all, I might give this another look later on, when I'm less annoyed by the game. But my first run was downright frustrating, and I can tell from the other reviews I wasn't the only one. Hope this area of the game is addressed, because it's built on a great foundation, but spoiled by some of the quirks.

This game is nice. It has a really good selection of a heroes to try and defeat the enemies. Every hero has some unique abilities that you enable by choosing dice in correct order. After 9 hours of playing, I have noticed more than couple of (minor but annoying) bugs. The graphics and sounds are nice. As the name says you will throwing dice and when bad luck hits, you will fail your quest. But the "runs" are quite short, so losing doesn't feel so bad. :) Overall grade 3/5.

Very poor gameplay mechanics. Sometimes you can click where your dice should go, other times you need to drag the dice. How hard would it be for the devs to highlight the possible destinations for each die and also other possible actions? All we can do right now is try everything till something works. It's very bad amateur game design,

Not sure why this game is verified for the Steam Deck since it's not adapted for the controller in any way. It's not that much fun with the mouse either. Dragging and dropping feels more tedious than satisfying. The artstyle is decent, but the visuals as a whole are primitive. The music, in particular, is a 30 sec crime against hearing which loops so heinously, that it need to be muted immediately. Unlike Slay the Spire, a clear inspiration, this game spends no time establishing the world you are in. There is no purpose, no sense of exploring the dungeon, no rhyme or reason for the enemies, companions show up out of nowhere, you buy items out of thin air. The absence of all that contributes to how shallow the game feels. No visuals, story, or worldbuilding. Just RNG numbers. Could have been a spreadsheet.
