Bullet Heavens are all about becoming a living god. It's about the dopamine rush you get when levelling up and becoming stronger and stronger.
Valkyrie Squad: Siege Breakers does nothing in that regard. The metaprogression perks are extremely expensive, while your base power level is pathetic. Just like the upgrades you get from levelling up. Elite monsters just won't die.
Speaking of elite monsters: they are solid objects. In case you get hit by them - which is likely to happen because they live so damned long, so of course you'll slip up - they can tackle you into walls and other objects and monsters, stunlocking you to death. Who the hell thought it was a good idea to make the enemies solid objects?
Also, environmental obstacles are annoying. Just remove them, they don't add anything of value to this game. Or any game, really. Especially if they are subtle and tiny, and you're completely focused on dodging elites.
At least the waifus are nice...

Competent survivors clone with nice art, and not too much of a time sink. Not overly deep, but fun

Imagine Brotato but instead of carrying weapons, you carry 3 specialists. Instead of different weapons, your heroines use abilities and ultimate. Swap between each as you see fit; use dodge mechanics and ultimate attack to clear waves of enemies. So far so good.
Good:
+ Lots of waifus to unlock. They are drawn pretty well, or were they? AI art perhaps? Maybe not. Can get an artbook (57 pages) as DLC with pictures. If you haven't unlocked the tiers of waifus, artbook will spoiler them for you.
+ Gameplay is your typical roguelike but ramps up pretty fast. Could be seen as good or bad. But grinding is a thing in most roguelike, so here we are.
+ Cute graphics. Chibi waifus.
Bad:
- No matter what resolution is set, for widescreen monitor, bottom part of the screen gets cut off. So your amount of gold, Select Button near bottom, etc becomes invisible. An annoyance during upgrade screen as you can't see how much gold is remaining.
- Difficulty tends to spike fast. While perfect dodge is a thing, it is sometimes hard to pull off.
- Upgrades are there but becoming powerful is still lacking in "feel." Upgrades do not feel like you are getting powerful enough to "make a difference" in gameplay. Aside from the ultimate attack, charge attack, you don't get anything else. That's fine, but the power level feels lacking overall. Could be a negative or neutral issue depending on your preference.
Why:
@ The unique art style is what drew me in. I was hoping for more in the art and character department. For example, considering how exotic/cyberpunk-ish they look, each don't have enough diversity in terms of action or abilities that would make them stand out during gameplay. It feels as if I am just switching characters for abilities that I could've had with just one heroine to begin with. In other words, like in Brotato, where you can carry melee and ranged weapons, I could've had one heroine with those and would've been just fine. Instead I am switching them to use just their ultimate. Different abilities or traits (active and passive during gameplay) are absent.
@ They gave us an artbook but the resolution of each art is low. They all contain arts 2D arts, no 3D models and their details. Just bare bone 57 pages of arts you see mostly in-game. No background arts for steam profile? Come on now. Opportunity lost. Or is it?
Considering the price, you can't go wrong with picking it up. Support the devs if you can. For the devs: please fix the resolution issue. More updates and characters would be nice.

Game has potential, but is too infuriating to enjoy if you're a survivor fan for the following reasons:
- There is a long ass un-skippable clip scene before every end boss fight. Not flashy, no action, just a bunch of people having a poorly translated conversation about nothing. Why?
- The RNG on pulls is real. You can't focus single items to max level in any meaningful way. If you don't love having level on of ten different items before leveling any of them up, you're going to be pissed off all the time.
- Mitigating the above issue is impossible since banning items takes both gold to unlock (like a normal survivor) but also takes your level to actually use. Given that there are dozens of options with no way to lock them out of your game, you're stuck with your draw or spending 5 of your levels getting rid of a tiny amount of items you don't want. Which might not be an issue, but...
- The RNG does not favor the items you already have, meaning re-roll is pretty useless. You can ban 5 items and re-roll five times and not get a single item you already have. The game seems to be designed around getting all ten items before meaningfully leveling any of them up.
-Loot boxes don't favor items you own, making them random boxes that RNG your builds to death. You basically ignore them until you have what you actually want to level.
- Loot boxes sometimes contain 'special' upgrades that hurt you more than help. Hell, the ones billed as exciting that contain 5 items will give you 5 random items you don't have and ruin your entire run at the very start of the match.
- Evolution are very difficult to get in a normal match given the above issues. I've played dozens and dozens of runs without getting a single evolution due to RNG. You're more likely to get all your items leveling at an even rate than to get any one of them to max level. Since there isn't enough time to do that, you typically don't get to evolve things.
-If you do evolve a weapon... it doesn't really matter. They don't seem to have unique animations and aren't much better.
- The strange overhead perspective makes dodging a chore since you have no idea where the hit/hurt boxes are.
- Invulnerable enemies is cancer. That's right, enemies that spawn and exist on screen for a duration of time that cannot be killed. You get so much clutter on screen that you can't see anything and it gets you killed by tiny invulnerable creatures covered by animations that might as well make them invisible.
- Any monsters that detonates will do so under all circumstances regardless of if you 'kill' them or not. Meaning, they either detonate seconds after they get next to you or seconds after you would kill them. In addition, the delay is different depending on the monster. This is problematic because this litters the map with creatures that can kill you quickly but also have I-frames before killing you relatively long after after you've 'defeated' them.
- Couple the above issue with the fact that many maps and bosses have pattern based attacks spewed all over the board at such a rate that you're forced to dash constantly or die and you have a recipe for madness. This is because moving is now a bad idea too, because there are un-killable mines created by your own attacks detonating all around you.
- The devs thought it fun to include hardly noticeable un-passable walls scattered all over the map. You can't dash through, you can't walk through, but hilariously, the enemies can.
Final thought:
Go play holocure.

This isn't the best survivors game, but it's not the worst either. What I like about this one are the art style, the squad system, and bosses.
When you go for a run, the game needs you to select three girls from a roster of 3-girl groups. There are several groups to choose from but you don't have to choose all three from a single set. You can mix and match from different groups. Each girl has an ability type: Attack, Defense, Support, and Special. Each ability type gives a small bonus to your team in terms of damage, defense, regen, or fire rate. Since you can only pick three, you need to choose a build that caters towards your gameplay style. You can also stack three attack types for a significant damage boost or defense type to boost your defense, etc. On top of this, each girl also has their own unique ability ranging from firing projectiles to melee to crowd control to healing. Each group of girls also has a charged ability that differ from one another. It's a great way to mix things up each run.
Bosses are not buffed up mobs. They are actual bosses with telegraphed aoe attacks that can kill you if you don't dodge. They have their own attacks as well. Honestly, they are rather damage sponges if you don't evolve your abilities.
Powerups in this game are generic. They upgrade your abilities and give you buffs. Each ability can be evolved after getting a specific buff to its max level. However, you can only get evolution from chests dropped by mini-bosses. So, its a great idea to delay taking chests for as long as possible.
The enemies in this game move at an incredibly slow pace but they also come in swarms, not waves. If you have ever played another survivors game called Army of Ruin, it's pretty much the same pace but with much smaller stages.
Last but not least, the girls are well designed. They're a treat to look at, and not all of them are the generic sexy hot blondes wearing bikinis (although I wish skins exist in this game as unlockables). Props to the artist(s).

P.S. It's best to upgrade your fav girl first rather than base camp. Getting that one OP girl in your comp can change a defeat to a victory to earn yourself a victory which gives you extra coins.

This game just feels like a glorified mobile survivors like game. Severely lacking in any sort of cohesive art style. But, did like the idea of using multiple characters at once and being able to swap between their abilities. I just don't really think that core idea is enough to set itself apart from other roguelite survivors.

Check out my gameplay video of Valkyrie Squad here: https://youtu.be/lgiYg94jzPc
Seemed like a promising Survivors like, especially with the team building mechanic. Then you actually play the game. There is no excuse why this game is so slow and unrewarding.
I hope there is an update soon which adds the ability to combine your characters skill into an ultimate skill, speed up the default movement speed of both the player and enemy by 1.25 - 1.5x speed. Add more satisfying upgrades.
You should never say to yourself in survivors like "I guess I'll take this one" when you're only level 5.
The art style is cool though...

I don't understand the other English reviewer's claim that it's like Brotato. It's not round-based, and you don't have a shop phase.
This game is slow and cumbersome.
It feels like a lazy and buggy mobile port.
- UI is squished and constrained and doesn't scale properly
- Upgrades you receive are dull and weak
- Dodge doesn't dodge attacks
- Characters get stuck on terrain
- Graphics are low quality (assuming so this can run well on phones)
The generic trailer, with its stock rock music playing, should indicate that this is a low-quality release.
Skip this one.
