After playing Laundry Store Simulator I was eager to play an earlier title made by the same developer. Movie Cinema Simulator is a game with a charming artstyle, a fun story and engaging gameplay. Especially in the beginning, some of the upgrades you can buy to make your job easier are very expensive and you need to spend a lot of time saving up money to afford them and to hire employees you need to complete side quests. This makes it feel rewarding when you buy an upgrade or hire an employee. On the other hand, it does take a long time to aquire all of the upgrades and hire all employees. One annoying thing about the upgrade system is the fact that the ticket machine doesn't need any repairs on the highest upgrade level since it can't brake down anymore – which is a really cool reward! – but all other machines like the popcorn machine or the waffle iron still need to be repaired from time to time even on the highest upgrade level. That was kinda frustrating, especially for the equipment in the kitchen. When those brake down they start to burn and when you don't put out the fire fast enough they trigger a fire alarm which makes all customers run out of the cinema. This means you can't just let the game idle to farm money and achievements because you constantly need to babysit the kitchen. (I discovered way too late you can circumvent this problem by just not paying the cook and the café employee but this also makes grinding the achievement for serving 5000 customers food and drinks take way longer.) Despite its quirks I really enjoyed the game and had a great time with it. I completed the story with all upgrades in roughly 30 hours. Since I'm a completionist, I went for 100% achievements and sadly, this was not very fun. There are some very grindy achievements like the ones for the gym and the casino or for the thugs and the graffiti kids. All in all, I spend 55 hours completing every achievement. I don't mind a little grinding to finish a game 100% but in this case, some of the achievements overstayed their welcome way too much. This leaves a bitter taste to the overall yummy experience this game was. (Sadly, too grindy achievements were also a thing in Laundry Store Simulator and I hope for their upcoming game Comic Book Store Simulator the developer will take a different approach.) All in all, pretty fun game but 100%'ing is not exactly recommended.
