Just so you know, with all this hype and 30+ hours later, the balancing issue is no joke, I understand you want to build your empire fast and occasionally make a decent movie. But the game doesn't let you do that. The early game is garbage and the surprise event doesn't help you much or give you enough weight if you choose otherwise, and it barely affects you in terms of making money, only how you spend it. Monetization is worse, you make a movie, double the amount you put into production, then suddenly you find yourself spending all that money to make the next movie or pay for all the worker. You're stuck trying to make a profit let alone mid-game. This game is a complete waste of good ideas, I know this is the game maker behind this is the police, but please make it worth our time and effort to play, don't drag us into playing as many hours as possible so you make it an addictive game for everyone.

I was a huge fan of the This Is the Police games, the first one in particular, so I have been looking forward to Hollywood Animal for quite some time. I found those games to be borderline dangerously addictive, and Hollywood Animal is no different - it has the same type of gameplay loop where you have so many things going on at once, there's always something to check on, and the hours just melt away as a result. That said, as an early access title, it does lack polish - I have had LOTS of hard crashes where I've lost a lot of progress. To be fair, the game has a decent automated, as well as manual, though the plus/minus to this is that the game is so addictive I neglect to save as often as I should. There have also been a few times where something has happened - and example would be a movie suspending production indefinitely without reason - and I'm not sure if the game is glitching or not. I'm inclined to give Weappy the benefit of the doubt on these issues as it's early access, but I also had lots of bug issues with TITP2, which was not early access. Some other notes: the art style is similar to This is the Police, but a bit more detailed, and with its own style and color palette. It looks nice - however, loading and performance are borderline unacceptable for a game that looks like this. It can stutter, and start up loading is flat out BAD. It's also far less story-focused than This Is the Police, which in my book is a good thing. I enjoyed the first game's story, but the second game was borderline unbearable in that regard, and I don't think Hollywood Animal loses anything by dropping the narrative aspect. Overall, some glaring issues here, but pretty complete, super satisfying and addictive, especially for an early access time. Definitely worth a buy.

This game is really really cool and I think the current reviews are a bit unfair. This game is early access, but i think there are some things that will make people nervous if they aren't addressed properly: 1 - the damn police raids. they are absurdly frequent. Its fairly obvious that the developers were worried that illegal activity would be too powerful, and their solution to that was to introduce near monthly (a month is about 15-20 minutes) police raids that completely lock you into an animation you cannot skip, frustratingly dangling a greyed out continue button that you cannot click in front of you. If you're insistent that early movie studios were constantly raided by the police (they weren't) then at least make those raids less annoying. 2 - people have pointed out this game is repetitive. I see where they are coming from. Most movies you make you have very little customisation choices outside of the writing. It basically comes down to picking the best option if you are wanting to make an expensive awesome movie that makes the most out of your writing, or go with the crap option if you are wanting a cheap, quick flick to send to the thearters to fill a gap in your schedule. We need more options about how the films are actually made. Perhaps we can stage our own films - choose our own sound and film vibes. Not sure exactly, but it needs to be better than choosing which sound producer you want to automatically do all this for you, or choosing star 5 out of 5 of what location you want to film at (seriously.. let us choose our own film locations! having every detective film have the exact same locations is boring!) There are more issues - but i don't want to slander this game too much, because it really is very good. They have really nailed down the feel of being a 1920s film director, and the atmosphere and characters, as well as the art style that brings all that to life, is absolutely flawless - but that goes without saying for Weappy. But the road-map right now seems to imply that the game as it stands is kind of 'it' - and their main focus is just adding small little additions to what is already there. Thats only worrying because in my opinion, it needs far more work than that. Regardless, must recommend and hope you decide to give it a go.

TLDR: Intersting Concept and beautiful animations and artstyle. However its lacking content and has bugs that need to be fixed. I am not quite sure if I should or should not recommend the Game. Let me start with something positive. I really like the setting, music, and artstyle/ animations. All of them are very good mood setters and fit in PERFECTLY. But sadly that basically about it. There are some bugs I have encountered, but the main problem for me was the bad/Meh tutorial, and quite plan Gameplay. The Game isnt finished yet, thats no secret, but even in its 0.8 stage, The Content is quite plain, research something for the specific department to either get a slight buff or to be able to build a new building/subbuilding. Click some buttons and select options for what genre and how much effort to put into the movie, then just publish it, thats it, and everything needs time, a good amount of time and you cant do anything, if the film is being developed and research is going, you are just sitting there not being able to do anything. It gets boring quite quickly. At the same time I am still intrigued by the Game, I hope in the 1.0 they have added a good bunch of more things to do except wait while the gears are turning to then click a button and than more waiting. So for the time being I cant really recommend it if I am being fully honest.

The first "big" update has been delayed multiple times now with very little notification to the public in a clear, concise way. Development of this game is gonna be a terribly slow drag and I don't think one should bother getting invested in it.

Vaporware and toxic fanbase. The May update is still not there and has been delayed to June then July and now August with barely any communication. The official reddit is full of aggressive and toxic fanboys who shout down and brigade any criticism with the devs' tacit approval. Waste of money.

first things. game is great, the concept is great but it bugged to the core and development is so dammm slow. not worth the money. still waiting on may update. roadmap they posted is a hoax to lure in sales. DO NOT BUY THIS NOW, wait until 2028 when it'll be half finished and truly in early access, now its more like developer alpha stage.

Fantastic presentation and a fresh take on the tycoon genre that isn't afraid to tackle heavy subject matter, and does it expertly. The mechanics are slightly repetitive but very enjoyable and it has a surprising amount of replayability for a tycoon game. But it sucks that i cannot recommend it in its current state. As of the time of this review (Jun 29/25, 12.5 hours in) I have run into 5 different softlocks that have forced me to reload an old save. I will be watching the development of this game with bated breath because i'll be happy WHEN (not if) i can finally recommend the game wholeheartedly.
