Is it dated? Sure. But if you love railroading (the industry, not just trains), you'll probably enjoy this game. I haven't been able to find anything else that captures the strategic layer of building a railroad like this. I'd happily pay for a remastered version of this with a more detailed map, a better economy, and more options for even more strategic control over your railroad.

It was alright when it came but today it is a horrible game. The A.I. is poor and the game mechanics awful. - There is a special action that lets you basicaly acquire almost all the target's cash. With that action, I went from 1,3 billions to 50 million... not only that, but all that money goes into the pocket of the one performing the attack. A big no! Someone should fix this and make it like 5% of what you have not like almost all you have. - A.I. bumrushes everything creating itself huge debts and eventualy bankrupts itself within the first 10 years if not 5. - Other special actions should be revised too some are underpowered while others are too powerful (the forced auction one is the only one that is fun and not overpowered as others can participate in the auction). The devs obviously did not playtest their game seriously and did not balance thigns out either. How to further improve this game? Industrial hubs and manufacturing hubs. Industrial one would be the intermediary between the raw materials towns and the big manufacturing cities. Those hubs would pull raw materials. Manufacturing hubs would pull cargo from industrial hubs. All would be pulled by the ports. Ports would also offer lots of passengers. Airports from the 1920s and onward would diminish the amount of people on trains and mail but transiting people from a major airport to neighbouring towns would be the most profitable instead of long distance trips. Do not buy unless you know the game. Not worth your money unless someone balances the game at least. The A.I. is more complicated to improve and maybe not worth the time and money. But the special actions definitively needs lots of love.
