I've wanted a metro VR game since I had metro and VR. Now that it's finally an official thing I have to say they did a pretty damned good job with it. Very atmospheric, more or less nails the feel of the metro universe outside of the "bullets for currency" store mechanic, but that's ok. I may now be afraid of spiders, so there's that. Oh, and I was very impressed with how the gunplay "felt" in a reactions sense - like when you shoot things it feels like you shot them. They physically react in a very satisfying way. Picked it up on sale, no regrets.

As a metro fan i can say this is a very good addition to the saga.
Its also my first proper VR game exprience, i cant tell how good it is in that regard but the mechanics felt simple enough to get around for a first time user. I dont think it'll wow anyone who played any other VR game but i do recommend it as a begginers choice for VR.
It has a lot of downtime, it has its shooting sections, it feels pretty good to play, and it does a decent job at getting you into the mechanics first before picking up on difficulty, the story might be a little much, a lot of walk and talk sections but its not bad in the slightest.
Overall as a whole, id say this is a solid 8/10

This is an excellent game with a story that drives you through to the end, some of the best gunplay in any VR game, beautiful and horrifying graphics, and the perfect mood of the Metro series. I can't recommend enough. I purchased this full price, and I don't regret it. Playing on the hardest difficulty it took me 29 hours to complete, and I ran into only a handful of segments that required multiple attempts.

I cannot even imagine how this could be mostly positive. Especially when only a few of players got till chapter 10 (17% by achievement). At the beginning I upset because there is violent only possible way. It gets against a spirit of Metro. But as I get closer to the finish, the storyline is getting more absurd. I do not even tell about common mechanics and VR interactions. I lost minutes to find where clips are hidden at every time, while monsters are eating me. Stupid screamer. I understand the complexity of VR, but this is just a crap.

VR fans and Metro fans need to play this game. As one of the first big VR games I have ever played, I am impressed. The everything looks really makes me feel like I am in underground Moscow, and the immersion features they have built for the world blew me away. Manually reloading guns and seeing the mechanics work accurately to real life is super cool. The detachable backpack holding all of your utility objects is pretty neat too. All of the models and environments are super detailed, but it is unfortunate that only certain objects can be interacted with and bumped around. Still, the world feels well designed.
As for the game being a Metro series game, it gets right everything a typical Metro fan would want it to. The underground atmosphere, claustrophobic tunnels, reactive AI, NPC conversations off to the side, etc. It hits all the points that made me love the first game. So far, the story of the game is pretty good too, I just got a bit lost in the beginning because I forgot to pay attention as I was too busy throwing things around and messing with the guns. The only real nitpick I have is we don't really get to leave the metro/connected buildings, so as far as I know I will never see the sky in this game. But, I haven't finished it yet so maybe there is hope.

Overall: I don't recommend this game.
Pros:
-The game looks decent graphically.
-The shooting aspect is fun.
Cons:
-Combat leaves a lot to be desired.
-Does not run well at average resolutions on my medium-high system (9070XT, 7700x, 64GB of 6000mhz).
-Doesn't feel like a Metro game to me, graphical style is lesser, very different. Enemies look different and are very reduced in fidelity.
-Offers TSR but no way to change what level of TSR is being used.
-Massive nausea with little mitigation effects.
-Story is ridiculous, lots of yapping and delay tactics to make the game seem longer.
-Game is very short, <6 hours.
-This feels like somebody modded Half Life to be a Metro game, and not like a true-to-form Metro game.
-When will we do away with floating hands and get actual arms and a body? why does a body always have to be modded in? As if it's hard to do...
-Issues with player height variations. Game seems to adjust your height randomly sometimes and you feel super short. I couldn't find a setting that deals with this.
In conclusion, my opinion is that I feel like they slapped this game together just to say they had a VR adaption of Metro. It feels sloppy, can be janky at times, optimization seems poor, and it doesn't feel authentic to the series. I am disappointed to say the least, and i'm highly skeptical of some of the reviews that i've seen as-of late. I may be incorrect, but from what I recall this game had a less-than positive stream of reviews in the beginning but now suddenly shows "mostly positive", despite there not being significant changes to the game since launch. That could be due to a number of things, but it seems suspicious to me.

I really love the Metro series.
I like VR games/VR combat.
I do not recommend this game.
It is vaguely Metro inspired.
The combat is really bad.
The story/plot is also not good.
The characters are not good or well developed or interesting or likeable.
The few cinematic sequences were not stabilized well. Camera jolts 1-2 feet every .5 seconds.
There are spider enemies that jump on your face and crawl around your head while you frantically try swinging them off while they kill you but it is unclear if that is actually doing anything besides turning on or off my flashlight or throwing off my respirator.
Enemies are insanely tanky and your weapons are shit.
The butt of most guns makes it extremely difficult to aim down sights while two-handing.
One-handing the auto rifle makes the gun kick to an insane degree.
Even when two handing the kick makes automatic fire extremely inaccurate.
I was in a combat bit on regular difficulty where they give you a mounted turret and I died dozens of times because the enemies do a ton of damage and are armored and have better accuracy than I do.
Maybe it's just a skill issue.
Profoundly disappointed with my experience with this game.
Really wanted to enjoy it.

Metro Awakening was a great experience.
I can recommend this game without a doubt. It is not as long as HalfLife: Alyx nor as complex, but somehow it came close to HL's greatness.
Shooting is great, the whole backpack mechanics is also great. Finally, I witnessed an improvement in VR games. I wish more games had packpack mechanics like this one instead of body mechanics.
The story is okay. It is sad and in typical Metro tones. During the travels, I saw a lot of devastated metro corridors and trails.
Personally, I had only two issues with this game.
The first one was objects, a lot of them were untouchable, it seemed to be normal, but sometimes a chest with supplies was a decoration, and sometimes it was not. So, some objects could be more distinguishable.
The second issue is related to cutscenes. It was weird when out of nowhere I became a ghost floating over the character's body, or when I had to witness a scene like from Metro 2033, only in first person on VR. The worst case was during a ride on the rails. I have lost the ability to look around and almost fell irl due to the dynamics of the scene. This should not have happened in a VR game.
The game also requires some backtracking. I understand that it makes sense in the story, and it is a metro, so usually there are only two ways, forward or backward. The same locations are reused, but this story (at least for me) is not a journey like Artom's journey. It is more about running in circles in madness.
In conclusion, great experience and I recommend it to anyone who likes Metro

I recommend it with a giant caveat. Only on sale for less than $20.
The reason is that it’s too repetitive and uses the same environments and assets over and over to drag out what is for the most part a boring slog of a campaign.
It is also far from a AAA game like you would expect from this franchise. It is indie through and through and plays like a Quest port even on PC with effects turned up. Many textures feel like low res JPEGs, pop in happens frequently and some assets just flat out disappear. The physics are not great and not everything can be interacted with which kills immersion. There is nowhere near as much depth as the flat games and the part I disliked most: it didn’t feel like an adventure. It felt like a slog through a very boring repetitive environment for 16 hours! The environment never changed and never let you explore the outside world…
In my opinion, a VR mode of any of the existing Metro games would be far superior to this game.
That being said…
There are SOME good moments and the gameplay is genuinely fun at times—particularly during some of the more challenging stealth segments, which admittedly were pretty difficult on normal difficulty. This was probably due to the brutal checkpoints and frustrating artificial scarcity but they worked nonetheless.
In summary, if you have nothing else to play and you’re a fan of Metro or long, single player campaigns, this game may scratch the itch just don’t expect anything close to its flat, AAA counterparts.
