I have started in the jungle and really like the setting so far. The beautiful jungle I am in is varied enough to be interesting and I am only just starting my journey. I love the way items are quick transferred with a quick keybind. I have the game on really an easy setting but I think I am going to turn it up so its a bit more challenging. The game lets you play the way you want and allows a lot of customization in settings. I like to build and this game has not disappointed me yet. I can see myself putting in a lot of hours in this game.

Been holding off on playing this for the 1.0, just getting around to it now and let me just say I'm absolutely blown away. Long time ARK, RUST, Conan, Windrose, and many other modern survival craft games. This games does everything well that those games have, and adds a fantastic system on top that I've never really seen done quite so well. Plus, the solo/pve story experience is really quite developed, I've played quite a bit of it and I'm continuously in awe and surprised. I've bought the new Sands DLC and haven't even got to it yet, I'm eager but there's just so much to the base game already. 10/10 from a base building, colony sim, survival crafter. Playing solo. Graphics: 9/10 (only gripe is draw distance, let us mod it!) RPG Elements: 8/10 growth system feels good Base building: 9/10 +for colony sim, npcs feel good and real! Construction slightly less intuitive than others (Windrose, Dune) Setting/environments: 10/10 invoke awe/sense of really being in an amazing place Combat: 8/10 better than many, flashy, not as fluid as Dune, but give sense of power and progression

(I'm still in early game at the time of review) I was aware of this game since it first went into early access and decided to pick it up after early access was concluded. Initial impressions are not great. While the thematic elements are unique and enjoyable to a degree, there's not a lot of new ground being broken with this title. Soulmask appears to borrow from many Survival Crafter predecessors and doesn't really do anything special with it. Adding to this is a fractal nightmare of a UI that feels as unpolished as it looks and goofy animations that detract from the overall vibe. The early game so far is not terribly engaging. Playing at normal difficulty feels like nothing is terribly threatening if you know what you're doing. It's been more of a chore than an enjoyable experience. Performance feels sub-par yet unjustified on a decent rig as the graphical fidelity isn't exactly at UE 5 levels of realism. I'll keep playing it since I already threw money at it out of curiosity, but Soulmask needed more time in the oven to really iron out all this jank.

The game gets repetetive very fast. I cannot find a way of progression in this game. As soon as you reach Bronze everything feels like just the same. Its nice to automate your base but when that works its just go to the dungeon that all look and feel the same, fight the same enemys just with more HP and grind for boss items, rinse and repeat. The combat system is not variable enough for a game that depends so much on combat, it feels just like a DPS battle, The exploration is probably the best part because its a good looking and vast map but its not rewarding enough to hunt and fight the animals. They dont drop special items or anything useful because there is no special armor except the ones you can grind the bosses for. The base building is kinda weird aswell, not alot of freedom to build, the snapping system is always trying to make things harder and some things just dont snap, Free building isnt a thing because you cannot even slightly clip things into each other and sometimes it just wont allow you to place things without reason. Overall good concept but couldnt keep me playing. The optimization seems good though, I play on a Laptop GPU and it never performed poorly, even in a crowded base.

It took actually playing this game for me to appreciate it. And it took several hours to get in the groove of it. It's not 7D2D, Valheim, or Enshrouded, it's its own unique entity, but very in depth and entertaining. I wish it had more popularity and mod support, as it deserves it.

Here is my impressions after 71 hours. Their is ton of features, and neat automation you can do with your tribe. The storyline is good, and the world although feeling empty sometimes is fine. Combat is fine, although I think the wild life is over tunned and the humaniods are under tunned (opposite of games like Conan exiles, Enshrouded etc). Here is the issues you should know before you buy: - Their is Grindy games, then there is this game which is grindy, grindy grind and then some grind some more. Its so slow paced both from a leveling point of view, to a durability on your weapons (i can't go more then 20 minutes without having a weapon break). - The games UI was designed purposely to frustrate you. I have played some games were the UI was a nightmare, but this is utter garabage - and you have the game out with a DLC and its been out 2 years so the person doing the UI has never taken a class subject on the matter. They just chucked everything on random hot keys that don't even make sense. Menu options are so small that to find them is a miracle then you wonder why you were not using that. PS I wrote this review in the time it took me to watch my character sleep in a bed so he could get his "mood" up.

Not quite sure how to have fun in this game. Started out, dropped into a map, built a village, got some Tribesmen to do my bidding, killed a big boss, explored a pyramid...and that's kind of it. Like I don't see there being much else to this game. Now it feels like all that's left is to min/max my grinding potential and make my tribe as efficient as possible. Normally I'd be all about that, but the journey to make my tribe efficient seems like a gargantuan task given the horrible UI, lack of a proper tutorial, and massive amounts of items and building stations to get the things I need. Now when I play, I just kind of stare and do nothing. I'm overwhelmed and don't have a readily available goal. If there is more to this game, I'm just not seeing it. I could explore, but the exploration hasn't seemed fun. I could turn my tribe into an efficient factory, but the journey to get there seems annoying as nothing seems intuitive. I could just kill stuff, but what's the point of killing stuff if it already feels boring. Figuring out how to have fun in this game just doesn't seem worth the time investment. And even if I do invest the time, I don't foresee myself actually having fun by the time I do figure it out.

Ive only played this game a little bit only 1800 hours so I think i can make an honest review at this point. Ive played PVP and PVE and honestly the the pvp isnt perfect but its still fun. the current whip meta is broken and needs a huge nerf but the devs have sorted a good chunk of issues since the start of EA. The PVE gameplay is engaging and theres plenty to do in both game types. Dungeons, Multi tier bosses, Hunting for stats and traits on tribesmen "unusual liking" lol, building bases (on flying ships now) messing with automation, testing out all the masks, clearing camps, taming mounts, base defence against npcs, trophy hunting. theres a lot to go through but its all a good time. Worth your money and worth your time.

NPC pathfinding algorithm makes me want to scream and tear out hairs from my ass. You CAN'T build a base in ANY WAY other than absolutely flat foundation with all workshops placed on the perimeter with 10 meters offset from edges of foundation. No walls. No furniture. Nothing. And even that will not be enough to prevent NPC from finding some wall and stare at it for the rest of their lives in attempt to go from wherever they stand to wherever they need to be. Even if the wall in question is nowhere near their path. And you can't do **** about it. Base building - absolutely worst part of the game. Exploration and combat are fine thou. 4/10
