Playtime: 848 minutes
The sequel to the first Spooky Dwellers game is more challenging than the first, but not head-hurting hard. There are 90 levels in the first (SE version) map and 60 levels in the 2nd (CE extras) map. The goal in most levels is to get rid of all the spooks hanging out at the edges of the playfield by manipulating the lights so the light beams shine on all of them. While levels can feature the more typical "clear the tiles" objective M3 games usually have and said tiles can block the lights (along with other obstacles), it's not your run-of-the-mill M3 with the way the mechanics work. An assortment of HOS, swap-type jigsaw puzzles and memory card games unlocks as you progress. The CE extras have a few more of these minigames plus 2 new ones: a bounce-to-hit game where you collect coins by aiming skulls thrown from a slingshot, and a chain-to-match M3 game with some twists, which I particularly enjoyed despite chain-to-match M3 not usually being my thing. The ghosts do look realistic and there's some blood splattered around in some scenes, but overall it's "Halloween Lite" for the creepy factor. My favorite part of the game was building the spooky playground for the ghosts you're evicting from the house. This isn't the click on something to add to a scene until you've clicked on everything deal so many M3 games do these days, but more like a "sim" game where you can build and rebuild the scene to your heart's content so long as you have the gold from playing the M3 levels and minigames. Once you get some roads put into the playground, you can even view your construction up close using the Spooky Tour feature, which "walks" you around the path of your choice. This is really great for appreciating all the details in the scene, even if those who are easily prone to motion sickness may very well want to limit the length of a tour and/or enable the options to soften the turns. Recommended, and not just for Halloween!
