There are only two options:
you either drop it in the middle and consider it some random old junk for the rest of your life
OR
you finish it and it becomes THE game for you.
There is simply nothing like Vangers. You'd want more, but there simply isn't. Gameplay, narrative, music or design - you won't be able to find anything resembling this experience, which is in itself both a blessing and a curse. Additionally - good luck finding someone patient enough to listen (or, god forbid, discuss) the contents of this one-in-a-million-years game.
Sure, the entry threshold is high, it can be frustrating and it expects commitment from you. But you will be rewarded for it in the end, you will feel that all this misery roaming the roads of Fostral or Glorx was for something. In the end it will all make sense, and I mean every single bit of your experience.
Just play this. If it isn't your thing - fine, but if you *commit*, you won't be able to forget Vangers, ever.
(Also, keep several save files and don't hesitate to consult playthroughs. We're all humans after all, soft creatures.)
