I really want to enjoy this game but controls are unusable, UI/UX is terrible and anything extra costs real money. I do not recommend buying this game at this state.

Not recommended because of very buggy and bad webpage and you can't bubbles for extra ships. And of course you pay per ship!

I really wanna give Sailaway III a positive review because I love the freedom it offers in being able to sail anywhere in the world with real-world conditions, including weather, waves, time/date, and markers/buoys. If you want a 1:1 sailing simulation for the entire planet, then look no further.
The problem is: that’s all you get and everything else is an exercise in frustration. Much of what would otherwise be an enjoyable experience is absolutely ruined by incompetent design and a needlessly convoluted interface. I played the original Sailaway and this was a major gripe for me with that game as well. While it is marginally better here, the GUI is nowhere near where it needs to be to offer a fluid, efficient and seamless experience for the player and you will quickly find yourself struggling with it just to perform basic tasks, such as plotting a course or displaying what instruments you want on screen.
A good measure of what makes a competent UI is if you’re constantly forgetting how to navigate the interface just to do something or you otherwise have to work around the interface to proceed. This is definitely the case with Sailaway III. The amount of time you will spend fighting illogically placed menus will leave a bad taste in your mouth and this alone ruins it for me. In addition, this issue translates directly into interacting with and maneuvering your boat, as this must necessarily be done through the UI because trying to click on lines and whatnot in the game world is practically impossible as you have to literally select a pixel-wide object while your character is rocking on a moving boat. I’m actually convinced sailing in real life is easier than in Sailaway III. The devs clearly have a vision for what they want but the mechanics implemented to materialize this vision are so chaotic, unintuitive and incompetent. It’s like an artist who paints a masterpiece but the paper used is brittle and breaks apart the moment you handle it.
The other big problem with Sailaway III is the baffling decision to incorporate virtual currency, called “bubbles,” that requires real money to sail on more than two boats. I completely understand the need for a game like this to be constantly online but requiring real money just so people can experience more from the game is just greedy. I would actually prefer if this was a DLC model where you get a pack of boats at a flat price, which would at least be easier to comprehend transactionally. But what the devs have opted to do is require the user to spend money on bubbles which are then spent on community made boats. Essentially paid mods, which is even more lazy. Moreover the bubbles must be bought through the Sailaway website, regardless if you’re playing on Steam.
In conclusion, Sailaway III had tremendous potential to be one of the greatest sailing sims on the market but due to incompetent design that causes tedious gameplay and a greedy business model, the user is left in the dust. There’s a reason this game is currently “mixed” on Steam. I caution any buyer and I encourage the devs to read player feedback.
