While not perfect, there is nothing else that even comes close for a basketball management sim. If you're a basketball fan and a fan of sports sim games like OOTP, this will for sure be enjoyable for you.

It is an okay game but the contract "negotiations" are awful, constantly players are asking me for a 3 years extension when I cannot offer more than 2. Bad AI. Salaries are not well presented when signing players, let me see my salary cap while I am negotiating, show me similar players in the league and their salaries etc. Other aspects of this game are alright, but it is annoying to have to make 3 clicks to get back to my depth chart after every game, why can't I make it an easy screen to get to? Trading is also just terrible and you can only trade with one team at a time. In all I cannot recommend this game, it needs a lot of work.

An improvement on prior version worth the pick up if you enjoy rebuilding, trade system could still use some work though but the historical mode allows you to play from any season and with the real world mod the game is even better.

After watching the few YouTube content that exists to this game, I was hoping it might be a possible alternative for NBA 2K, also including the option that you can start at any point in NBA history. I refunded the game after 1 hour of playing time, when I realised that basically the most important point of a NBA Basketball Manager is completely broken.
Positives
+ Community creates original team and player data including photos. Content is easy to download and update.
+ Generally a lot of customisation options, including things like salary cap, if it is possible to draft players right out of high school, etc.
+ Savegames from their previoius versions and from their NCAA game can be imported
Negative
- I tried 1-2 historical datasets. While the players seemed pretty accurate, those older seasons, don't include any pictures. Understandable, since it's a lot of work, but if that's the main reason for you to play the game it's good to be aware. I switched to current seasom.
- The reason I refunded: Player trades. First off the whole trade area is super uncomfortable and an absolute downgrade to NBA 2K. You can only trade with 1 team at a time, you can not inquire about any of the opposing players, you can only request a trade offer for 1 player at a time.
You have different options how player strength is calculated, I used 1-100 Average Strengrh & Potrential. I selected the New York Knicks and just wanted to see what kind of offers I get. First off, no team will give you ANY offer for players that seem to have a strength of 70 or lower, as long as they do not have high potential and are at least close to 70. This does not sound bad first, but majority of players have extremely low ratings. I had only 5/15 players on the roster I could get any offers for- I could not get any offer for Josh Hart (70/70), Quentin Grimes (61/74), Donte DiVincenzo (60/60). So trades with computer offers are only possible for really good players. From what I understand, if you get the message "we are not interested in that player" you have no way to make a trade work, no matter what you add.
The offers that you actually get are completely unrealistic and random. First of, the computer will never add any more players from your team, only draft picks, while they on the other side might fill up on players until the salaries work. So I got multiple 1 Player + 1 Pick for 2-4 players that make the salary work offers.
The most annoying part is the getting the offer process yourself. You can put a player on the market to get feedback which teams might be interested. It lists you some teams, but other teams might still be interested and give you better offers, so in the best option is just to click through each team and get an offer. Now 3 things can happen, either the team will tell "we have no interest in the player" which means that they won't give you an offer, they give you an offer, or you receive the message that "no current offer was received". In that case it means that you will eventually get an offer if you continue to click the getting an offer button. Can take 10-20 tries and is just an unnecessary hassle. So you click through teams, get your offer per player, might realise that they are interested in 2 of your players, but don't have a way to get a combined offer for both from the team.
Until now these are things that by itself would make the game more difficult , or are just not user friendly, but the offers you get are hilarious. Again I'm playing with the Knicks and check offers for Jalen Brunson (89/89). 26 of 30 teams have no interest at all to make a trade for him. By far the best offer I get for him is from Brooklyn: Spencer Dinwiddie (74/74) +2 1st rounders. It seems that the engine kind of realizes that most teams already have a good Point Guard so do not see the need to add an All NBA and All Star player as possible replacement. Also it seems mostly related to salary height and player strength.
For Julius Randle 90/90 I get all kinds of offers. Him +2 1sts for Ja Morant (93/95), him and a 1st for Sabonis (93/93), offfers that bring me back multiple 1sts.
Now the insane part:
I could trade RJ Barrett (72/77) for Miles Bridges (80/80) and a 2nd.
My favorite trade of all Mitchell Robinson (72/72) for Nicola Vucevic (84/84) and a 2nd.
I would understand if this is a first year release, but clearly have to say that I haven´t seen such a bad trade system since the early 2000s. From my perspective it seems pretty pointless to play a Basketball Manager with a totally busted trade system.
