If you were a fan of Caesar 3 then you will love this game. It has very similar game play and city build mechanics with some new flavor. I love that the devs are still throwing out free DLC's. The only downside is this game is a bit too easy compared to Caesar 3 IMO. The battles you just have to overload one side and once you get the city build mechanics down you are golden. You are not punished by ignoring the gods or invading armys, you can ignore both and easily still win.

This game feels like the spiritual successor to Caesar III. Really triggers the nostalgia!

I am a long-time Total War player, and I honestly (still) dream for the game that combines city building mechanics with Total War's detailed combat. This is not that game, and I feel dissappointed a bit, not gonna lie.

Fantastic path walker, city builder game. Reminds me of all the things I loved about Caesar, but with many more modern enhancements.

I have 124 hours in this game. I was able to accomplish the 2 tutorial missions with some aggravation. Once you make a mistake there is little you can do to get your city back on track. Restarting missions over and over again and failing isn't fun at all. Most of my hours were spent on mission 3, where the game nerfs the immigration rate to 11 people a day. Not enough to keep a good city working though. My major grievances are the plebs to patricians ratio, you do need both, however only patricians pay taxes. If you have too many plebs the patricians can't pay the wages of the plebs Using the trade system is just pathetic, all the other cities can make exactly what you can make, this renders it almost useless, you can still make money from it. Enemy armies just appear in the middle of your city with only the city guard to defend your citizens. don't like that at all. Also with no warning they are coming, they don't appear on the regional map at all. Moving on to the gods....Gods are too finicky requiring consecutive festivals in they're name to stay happy with you. All 6 of the gods react the same when they are angry with you, they'll collapse a few buildings, maybe kill some citizens. No lightning, no earth quakes, no flooding seas. Now the time scale, which is very important. So in the 3rd mission you get to see the plebs come in at 11 plebs a day, 2 days to level up prestige to have all the farms unlocked when you reach 20 plebs. That is just too slow, since the ratio thing I already talked about, makes it impossible to put patricians housing in because you need farms and industry before you have the resources to make the housing and all the accoutrements(not the right word, but you get what I mean) the patricians need. The health system is bad, as soon as you unlock the doctors office you need to build it or everyone starts getting sick. Before you unlock the crematorium there are dead people in the streets, that makes citizens leave, also you unlock the clay pit and clay brick maker at the same time. not helpful at all. You need clay bricks for the crematorium. The only goood thing I can say about this game is I like the water distribution system. However I was expecting to build fountains to feed the thirst of my citizens. Instead we have wells, which only help the fire stations. What I found out while putting in these hours is the housing ratio for plebs to patrician houses. At end game you need 15 pleb houses leveled to support 6 patricians houses leveled. Thats about 250 plebs to 120 patricians. As realistic as it may seem, I don't thinks it's right. Can I whole heartedly recommend this game to citybuilder fans, not at this time that I write this. If the developer is honest and willful, they will fix it. If they don't, then we know we bought a dud.

ok, i'm a tool for playing 45 hours and saying i can't recommend it. There, i said it! But this game has a lot of potential and it just does not deliver. The gameplay is simply broken. First of all, I love the graphics, the music and the UI. All good here. The minigame of being invaded, the mini game of attacking armies, was a cool idea (but the result sucks!) My favorite games of the genre is Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom (If you are looking for a good successor go for nebuchadnezzar). Now what makes these games good is that you have to keep a lot of balls in the air. Spacing, distribution, keeping all kind of things in check because any one of them can make you loose the game. With Citadelum it is one thing: if you earn more then 1000 denarii per day, you simply cannot loose. So, what is wrong with the game, why do i call it broken? Let me list it: 1. anger the Gods? Doesn't matter. They come and break 2 to 5 buildings. if you earn 1000 you can rebuild. So why built temples to please them? 2. enemy army invading? they destroy 3 to 6 buildings. Why built walls? 3. distribution is something you don't have to worry about. Built a fishery on one side of the map and a monger on the other side, and you will produce an equal amount per time unit. That means you can put everything together on one tiny spot. 4. I built the EXACT same built (the way of placing the houses and their needed buildings) every damn map. The environment has little to no effect. 5. trading, i think you don't even need to produce the right amount of goods to earn the money after each day. 6. you need one spot for stones, iron and salt. 1 spot! All mines, woodcutters, quaries can be built right next to eachother and use that one spot and you will produce the same amount. Meaning you can put them all together. 7. You don't really need a defense, but if you do a few towers will do it. Walls are not needed. 8. You need money. Which you can get by having a trade route, which is the easiest. Or you have Patricians, which is a bit harder at first. But both ways are possible. Meaning you don't need to explore if you need cash. 9. So you have one single strategy for every map you encounter. 10. You never have problems with space, there is always enough. 11. many items/buildings you will never need to built or has very little value Ah man, this game has the potential but it just does not deliver! Such a shame!
