I keep starting over just to try new layouts. It’s that kind of city builder.

I think Citadelum is a very nice strategic city builder, especialy for beginners (since I am one). Its not to easy and can provide quit a challange in certan missions. Another nice touch is how the game leads you in step by step and get more difficult over time and missions. The Art is nice too. When you are searching for a city builder, where you can build your own Rom then this is just the game for you, and the free updates and dlcs are ofc very welcome as well. Very nice game indeed.

It is Caesar 3 light.
Less depth, simplified mechanics, distances are virtually irrelevant.
External combat was added, which the original was missing, but unfortunately implemented in a way that feels rather gimmicky. Add to that, the game is not exactly a looker.
Over all fun for a short bit, but due to its limitations gets old very quickly.

I started playing after the recent update so I can't say how the game was before the update.
Currently to start making your first dime in the game, you need minimum all the following
* Start with Plebian houses
* Water (whoever designed the Reservoir system should be fired)
* Food (Wheat farm + Granary)
* Market to distribute food
* Multiple Fire + Engineer's buildings. Fire station also requires water
* Wood and Stone mines for continued building
* Warehouse to store wood and stone
* Salt mine (once you have enough Plebians it unlocks)
* Bakery for bread
* Cabbage
* Patrician houses (can be built once you have everything from above)
* Market and Tax house for Patricians
By the time you have all this, you are losing so much money per day that you will soon run out of your starting cash and resources. You can start trading but that also needs production which increases wages. Also trade gives you very less income. Most of your income comes from taxes paid by Patricians.
Game is so unbalanced and unchill at the moment.
I would not recommend it unless you want a Souls-like City builder.

What really hooked me early on was the way the game handles social classes. Plebeians wanted basic stuff like food and water, but once I unlocked the Patricians, they were way pickier—they needed wine, entertainment, and more. Balancing both groups kept me constantly strategizing.

Played this game on original release and very much enjoyed the original campaign...It was a nostalgic diversion that kept me engaged throughout...but now with the FREE releases of two more mini-campaigns and the massive Julius 2.0 release I am back into it...the Julius update adds a stunning amount of depth and variance to the game and I find myself replaying the original campaign once again and it is like doing it for the first time...more nuance, more to manage, more level advancement and production management...This is a great entry into the historic builder genre...a throwback to Caesar 4 and Grand Ages: Rome but modernized just enough to make it relevant to today's burst of city builder releases.

Honestly, just happy there's a game that scratches that Pharaoh/Caesar itch.

If you played Zeus + Poseidon, this game is its modern counterpart with tons of cool new features. Definitely something I can get hooked on for hours.

Let's go for the Cons first.
This isn't one of those expansive City building games, where there are tons of variations for you to do things.
It's primarily a Mission based game,
where each stage asked you to do specific objectives to progress.
There is a Sandbox Mode,
but you can pretty much achieve everything available in a small space of the map.
If you want to play a game with tons of choices to make, this isn't a game for you.
______
The Pros :
It's a decently designed Game for what it's trying to achieve.
=> Clear the objective to progress to the next Stage.
For that, Compared to other Games,
Building and upgrading is instant and automatic as long as you've fulfilled the conditions.
There are less annoying stuffs like having to do extremely specific sequences just to unlock a building.
Which means there are less micro management to do.
The UI is also well designed.
It's easy to understand what I need to build to upgrade the buildings.
