Alright. Sunland Hike is done and dusted. Yet another entry in the Hike series of asset pack walking simulators. If you’ve played one, you’ve played most of them. If you’ve played none, expect that once you’ve played one, you’ve played most of them, lol. Each will have some variation, but most stick with a familiar pattern of finding five locations in a circular forest surrounded by mountains. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3120561798 Some quick notes: The weirdly persistent invisible wolf howling is back. I didn’t really notice the music despite it definitely existing. I enjoyed the assets used in this one more than previous entries in the series. This forest had a more vibrant appearance. The movement was maybe a tad more fluid. The density of this forest and the insane amount of large boulders made seeing locations more challenging, and I thought the ruined house in particular was frustrating to try to find. Keep the largest mountain peak to your left and set out slightly to the right from the entrance. This game is Steam Deck compatible. On a keyboard, shift is run. You’ll want to adjust the controller settings to add this to your most comfortable spot (L2 in my case), since it defaults to L3, which isn’t ideal IMO. And there will be one instance of needing to bring up the keyboard to type the letter “h”. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3120561781 I note that as a daily hiker in real life, between human trails and animal trails, there are always paths to follow in the wilderness. Not so much in these games, lol. Potentially something the dev should consider. S/he used them in early series entries. It would be wise to bring them back. All in all, the Hike series features 30ish minutes of pleasant walks through various forests, and Sunland Hike sticks to the plan. For the 55 cents it cost during this current Steam Winter Sale (at the time of this writing), it’s an easy recommendation if you’re looking for a completely casual experience.
