Playtime: 200 minutes
A neat little defense game about fending off invaders ascending up the walls of your castle in balloons, with your primary weapons being cannonballs that bounce satisfyingly between them, and off flat surfaces, to inflict the required number of hits to destroy these enemies. Helped along by flying axes, flaming stars, and windmilling swords. And eventually, by lightning strikes, shields, and skulls that float upward to be captured by the player's cannon to wipe out the enemies onscreen. All of these things are acquired as upgrades along the way, by surviving long enough for the meter to fill up and the upgrade menu to appear. As the player survives longer and longer per run, accumulating score, a growing number of upgrades will be available right at the start of a new run. This caps at 10 initial upgrade points, so it's not possible to brute force a successful run using every upgrade in the game. But these bonus upgrades help a lot. One thing to note is that the "quick upgrade" option, which speeds up the player's progression, ultimately increases the challenge of surviving, as each upgrade increases the health of the enemy balloons. So taking "quick upgrade" is good for scoring points quickly, to get to the next tier of free upgrade point unlock. But it makes surviving 15 minutes more difficult, when you're going for a successful run.
