This is the fourth Yamoto game I played, and the only one I didn't really enjoy.
You play a person who finds themselves embroiled in some spooky happenings when they go out to meet with a friend. Having played this, Urayama, Haunted Property and Akai Onna, it's clear that this was the dev's first outing: and, with that in mind, parts of it are actually ok. The environments look cool (I miss the VHS filter of the other games though - it hides a multitude of sins!), we see the first instance of our good friend "I am the police", and there's decent variety in locations and interactive elements.
Unfortunately, the slow pacing and arbitrary triggers really grind everything down: I wandered aimlessly around the second main location (park) for about 10 minutes, with no idea how to progress. TBH I still don't know what triggered the "thing" you need to move on, despite replaying the game a second time to get the second ending (on that note: there's no chapter select in this one, so the second ending will require another playthrough). Another reviewer described the antagonist as "Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka", and now that's all I can see - which really detracts from the horror :D It's also not quite clear what his purpose is when he appears, and both the Good and Bad endings feel incredibly anticlimactic. As a step in the dev's journey, this is a competent one, showcasing some good worldbuilding and creepy ideas: as a game by itself, it's not so much fun.
I'd suggest picking this up on sale just for completion's sake if you've already played/are thinking of playing Yamoto's other games, which really are quite good and a great alternative to Chilla's Art - just bear in mind that the others are much better (so maybe play this first!).
Playing on Steamdeck was fine (remember to map CTRL > Crouch to something).
For comparison, this is how I'd personally rate Yamoto's current portfolio:
1. Haunted Property (good)
2. Urayama (good)
3. Akai Onna (ok)
4. Midnight Prowl (mediocre)

Crappy little horror game. It's ugly, it has a very low fov and after like 5 minutes in the game the walking speed becomes insanely low.
