This game has a fun core gameplay loop that is ruined by weird game design decisions. You are a hive jumper tasked with surviving multiple waves of alien bugs on a large stage. You get weapon choices at the end of each wave that require a currency you earn from killing bugs. That part is fun.
What I don't like:
The currency for permanent upgrades is SLOW to gain, and basically requires you to hunt it down on the stage instead of killing bugs. Most upgrades for me right now cost 150-200 but I'm lucky if I get 50 currency per run, it just feels terrible that I have to prioritize not winning a stage because I need to get amber and don't have time to kill the enemies on screen.
There is only one grenade ability, yet there are 2-3 (not 100% sure) passive upgrades for grenades. They offer you grenade upgrades when you don't even have a grenade ability diluting the pool of decent choices of which there are really not that many anyway.
There is also 2 (maybe 3?) "utility" weapons you can get. You have to use a bit of brain power to realize that these are the only weapon slot choices affected by the passive upgrades that affect utility items, which of course are offered to you even when you have NO utility item chosen.
The passive upgrades are quiet possibly some of the most boring I have ever seen. When you kill an enemy you get 1 goo, some of the upgrades are for example gain 20% more goo, while using your jetpack (which only lasts like 1 second-1.5 second). Wow 20% more on 1x item? Its just really boring.
During every stage there are random challenges that appear, in the early waves you get less than a minute you need to survive making finding and completing some of these challenges impossible. They do not show up on any large map you can open and you must already be fairly close to them to even see where you need to go.
