Great game that captures the feeling of skiing (with minor embellishments, but less than something like steep). Game isn't too difficult nor too easy. I figure it'll take me 25 hours to 100% it.

I have been playing at a LAN party on a different platform with about 5-7 friends for hours and its honestly so much fun, especially when playing with friends. The Zen mode is super chill to just cruise around and its kind of therapeutic. On the downside it`s not cheap but the amount of fun i had is worth it to me already. The camera is a bit frustrating sometimes but you learn to live with it. Hopefully the devs. will add some sort of map editor in the future and perhaps crossplay..

It's an adjustment from its predecessor, but I'm getting the hang of it. In short, it's still the same concept of pathfinding, speed running, and just having a good time, but now with multiplayer that I admittedly haven't tried yet. That said, I love its forebear (aka Downhill) and still load it up every once in a while and now Snow Riders joins the list of games that I never uninstall. For those not in the know, this is a sequel to Downhill, a game that focused on mountain-biking down, well, mountains and Snow Riders swaps the dusty bike paths for powder trails and some planks of wood strapped to your feet. Like its big brother, the game is not entirely just about getting down to the bottom of the trail as fast as you can, though that is a major focus of it to be sure. In order to do so, you are encouraged to explore and experiment and learn the courses before you attempt your fast run. Whether you do this on the official challenge or you go into 'zen mode' and just explore is up to you, so there is an element of chill to be found if you're looking for that. But make no mistake - the meat of the game is rising up to its various challenges and setting times on the leaderboard. If you think you can simply just start a challenge and ace the run in one try, be prepared to have your ego placed on the shelf real fast. The major difference between the games is pretty obvious, but that also implies that your means of control are just as distant as in real life. You don't pedal; you push. And you don't sprint; you tuck. There's no handlebars or wheel brakes here, but sliding hard sideways down a slope that sometimes ends up seeing you moving backwards. If you're coming from the first game, there is most definitely an adjustment period to get used to navigating the slopes. Of course as you complete challenges, you'll unlock gear with different handling, benefits, detriments, etc. that you can always retroactively bring to an earlier one to try and make your life a bit easier. Admittedly, this game is not going to be for everyone. The camera is purposely locked in position to increase the tension and the danger and yes, it can absolutely cause you to miss a jump or a turn simply because you couldn't see it coming. Sometimes you'll be skiing right towards the camera and other times you'll be speeding away from it, but it's part of the challenge and if you can't get over that, you're going to have a bad time. However, the game is as much about failing as it is succeeding. While initial challenges are pretty easy to complete, as you go on you're expected to fail many times just to figure out where you're going. Runs don't really last more than a few minutes so committing a path to memory is pretty manageable and not too overwhelming, even for an old brain such as mine. Sometimes you'll land a jump and sometimes you'll eat shit, but you'll never know until you actually try it. A lot of the game is simply mapping out the course to figure out how to do your so-called golden run and experimentation is most definitely encouraged as each slope has short-cuts, alternate routes, and very risky jumps, but it's all in service of shaving off as much time as you can from your attempt because here your only opponent is really just yourself. Both games can co-exist because while they are similar experiences, they most certainly feel different. In Downhill, I never accidentally end up backwards. Face-first into a rock, sure, but backwards not so much. In this one, the feel is more slippery (as it should be) and since you can't really get a speed boost by pedalling, Riders is very dependant on exploiting gravity in your favor. The thrill of this series, to me, is simply about riding that knife edge between control and the lack thereof. When you've figured out the best route to take, pushing it right to the very edge to maximize your speed and minimize your time is so much fun. It's the same reason I can easily spend hours doing hot laps in a racing sim where milliseconds feels like victory. I know there is a multiplayer element to this game and as I said before, I haven't tried it. I personally don't need it because the time trials are why I came here in the first place. I'm sure it's a good time, but my friends aren't into these games like I am so you'll have to discover that part on your own. However, as a player of Downhill, I am very satisfied with this sequel and if you avoided the previous entry because biking's not your thing, but skiing is? I'm sure you'll find the thrill ride you're looking for with Riders.

WOW! What a game. I enjoyed the Downhill Biking game but the Skiing one is next level! Always enjoy trying to best my own times and those of my friends! You've really done it on this one developers! Thank you. A project with many committed individuals, I imagine. Top 10 Game for me with 10+ years on Steam with multiple accounts. Thanks team!

Okay this game is easily a 9/10 solo experience, similar to the downhill mtb predecessor. I haven't tried multiplayer yet but I can imagine it is fantastic as well. The gameplay is super smooth, clean, and looks absolutely beautiful with tons of attention to detail in the maps despite the low-poly art style. My constructive feedback for the devs: 1. I think the progressive unlocks are a little unnecessary / difficult for ultra casual play. Not sure if there's a way to apply "cheats" or something but you might want to add that. I understand the content may feel a little "light" but I think there's plenty of re-playability in the fact that the gameplay stands on its own. If there was a career mode or something that would be different but as is it's just kinda annoying. 2. The biomes included are just a little off for me. I'm an east coast US snowsports enthusiast and I just feel like there should be a few more maps with dense conifers, gentle snowfall, and a little extra deep fluffy pow pow. I don't really understand all the maps on the "desert" and "tropical (?)" looking biomes - it just kinda breaks the immersion for me personally. 3. As an addon to that last point - I think this game would benefit MASSIVELY from a community map editor. Honestly why is this not just an expectation anymore. Like... THPS 2 had a park editor, and I remember spending hours making my own maps in Motocross Madness 2 - and those games are from the 90's. Come on people! 4. It might just be my system but I get some funky frame drops in some maps even though 99% of the time I am locked at frame rate cap. Would love to know what causes those and fix it cuz it's kinda annoying. Good luck to the devs and keep up the great work on these games!!!!
