Teaboy's Basic(ish) Reviews....I read a lot of reviews when looking at games on Steam, and it quickly gets tiring – those who write involved, down to the micron scale reviews, although helpful, end up like looking at War & Peace when you’ve only got time for a quick 5 minute dump! This is middle of the road and to the point – not easy for me as I tend towards sesquipedalian loquaciousness! Vociferously Verbose? Alright, verbal diarrhoea. (Although I hate panning a developer’s work and all the time, effort and love they put into designing these – it is their life after all – this is my honest, personal opinion of my level of enjoyment. Sorry devs!).
A note on time played: My Steam clock does not seem to work properly, indeed, it even minuses time on occasion! Plus, I have a tendency to wander off and leave games running at times, so time played may not be entirely accurate!
Teaboy’s Tonsil Titillators or Toenail Titbits! (Rating)
Tonsil Tickler (Totally Tops): The frenchy of which you always dreamt! To quote a master, “She’s got a tongue like an electric eel and she likes the taste of a Man’s tonsils!”. An absolute masterpiece and joy to play.
The Tits (Terrific): Everyone loves playing with these! Not THE best bit, but such fun on their own you can be lost for hours....mmmm. What most games you really like score – perfection is so rare after all.
Torso Teaser (Taker of your Time): It’s a flat stomach....sure it’s nice to look at, run your fingers over, slobber on a bit, sometimes that bellybutton gets your motor running....but it's just basically the corridor between the two ‘gaming rooms’. The definitive ‘Meh’ - the middle ‘sideways thumb’ option for which everyone on Steam cries.
Todger/Tadger & (scroTum) Taters (Tedious): Is it an ‘a’ or is it an ‘o’? Who cares! The meat can be fun to play with for about 5 minutes of your entire day, the rest it just hangs there and generally gets in the way of doing something else. The main problem of course, is the two veg sticking to your inside thigh. This is what this game feels like – the occasional/rare bouts of fun, the rest bobbing like a 19th century British Policeman (now you know why!).
Toenail Tornado (Total Toss): A playthrough so appalling it’s like being trapped in a Turkish sauna with the ugliest, hairiest, fattest, sweatiest beast of a neolithic hominid who’s trimming his toenails using pliers and the splinters are reminiscent of a scene from the Normandy Landings. My god how did this get released!?

The Review:
Meh. That sums it up for me. I should have loved it, being a Resi clone, but something about it made it a bit of a chore. I found I didn't particularly want to return to it, so much so I forgot wtf I was supposed to be doing/where going. It may be simply 'horror' fatigue as these games can grate after a while, especially after dying repeatedly.
I managed to lose everyone but Ashley lol, forgetting/deliberately not saving thanks to the imprint RE left on us all - damn that loveable game! I even left the lift/elevator unlocked - I think my brain is being twisted by all these 'evil' survival horror games lol x2!
I found the dying aspect far too annoying - you die far too easily (played on normal) - the game is VERY dark so is difficult to see anything, and the fact that only using the pistol will have the character hold the torch UP - using the shotgun and they just let it hang limply pointing at the frigging ground!
I had a deep dislike of the control system (it IS from PS2 and 2005, so I get it, but....), it was super awkward having to hold bumper buttons and scroll with d-pad to choose consumables (LB) or choose weapon (RB) especially mid-combat with all the other button requirements....
The way you have to hold LT to aim, A to fire, but also R3 (click lever down) to 'shine' the torch....it made it awkward and not a natural feel so I seemed to only be able to do one or the other - my brain must be severely limited. Also trying to walk backwards just adds to the button confusion, and the super slow speed of retreating made it almost pointless. Add to that the odd choice of auto-aiming at an enemy NOT closest to you - I also forgot the button for changing target....is there one? Meant a lot of hits on me and more bloody deaths needing to reload. Then there was me not saving often enough, fearing not enough save discs (RE flashbacks).
At the end of the game I had about 14 or 15 discs, so used about 4 of them after each room before the final boss - DOUBLE bloody boss with no chance to save between! Double the cutscenes too - bit of a bad choice imo.
There were some bullet sponges - the giant blobby sluglike guys who don't move and block areas - but generous amounts of ammo to pick up, not too much, but enough to happily blast away.
There were sadly the occasional camera angles where you can see NOTHING as an enemy is just off-screen hitting you so you have to fire blind and pray to the auto-aim (a while ago I replayed all the original RE trilogy on PS1 and on the 3rd I died to the giant worm underground under the van in the garage - it literally killed me OFF-SCREEN! It hit me 3 times and it was not even on the effing screen. I had enough firepower to kill it easily, and enough heals to fully restore myself 3 effing times over! I had not saved it FOR HOURS in the damnable RE higher score attempt for minimal saves. I never turned the PS1 on again!)
The map I found not so helpful and Weird to use. The clues involved far too much reading/viewing and leaving the game for a while made me totally lost. Especially as you get a map for the basement levels but it immediately gets taken away from you and you do the whole place blind! There's also no guide on Steam - wtf!?!? Steam Community is usually Brilliant at guides!
I've got the sequel and will get around to playing it, but not with the eagerness I would have liked.
It's good I suppose if you're an old-school RE survival horror fan, and I should have loved it....I think I must just not have been in the right headspace at the right time. Ennui aside, I'd say add it to your list.

Que buen juego, disfruté cada minuto.
Me gusta el hecho de que si muere un personaje, muere para siempre lo que provoca que tengas mucho más cuidado a la hora de combatir.

Really good old school horror game.
Obscure can best be described as a B-Movie Horror game, but one that does not take itself too seriously. Students stay late at night and their school, stumbling into a conspiracy.
Gameplay is solid, and classic, survival horror fare. Explore the locations, find items, solve puzzles and fight enemies.
Obscure has three main things that make it unique:
First, you have five playable characters and can explore the game in groups of two. Each character has their unique skill, most of which are gameplay orientated. For example, Kenny can sprint for short distances. Great for escaping danger. Josh can tell if there's any items left in the room. Handy for pack rats. This set-up also lets you play local co-op: letting someone else jump in and control the other character. It's also cool, as cutscenes will change depending on what character you're playing as. Not in a huge way, but it's cool to see how each character reacts to these situations.
Second, these characters can die. Instead of restarting from a checkpoint, when a character runs out of health they die. Dropping their items and requiring you to pick them up. You get five characters, so 4 chances to mess up. Losing all 5 is the only time you'd be forced to reload. I played on normal, and only had one death which was totally my fault. I did die a bunch on the final boss, but hey it's the last hurdle. Of course, to get the game's best ending you need to keep everyone alive, and I don't think that's too hard.
Third, the enemies have "shadow shield", like enemies in Alan Wake. You normally need to burn it off with light before attacking. This adds tension, as its not simply a matter of blasting an enemy when they come into view.
Overall, I loved this game. In classic survival horror fashion, it has a new special mode after completing and unlock rewards including new weapons. I'd describe it as Resident Evil Zero's gameplay, with Silent Hill Monster design.
Also, if you enjoyed it check out Obscure 2. It's also good.

Honestly surprisingly good. I'd def recommend it for the co-op element.
That being said there are some things that made the co-op annoying, biggest thing being the camera only following one person.
Also I didn't really care about the story and the voice acting felt disconnected from what was actually happening a lot of the time.
Still though, if you have someone to play with it's a fun time.

Pretty disappointing, at least for me. I got it for the co-op element, but there's basically nothing for the other person to do. It's probably fine if you're into old-school Resident Evil clones, but I've never managed to get into games like that, including RE itself. It's got an early-2000s vibe to it that's kind of charming, but the characters and voice acting are all really bland, so it doesn't have as much appeal for me as the "bad" horror movies from the same time period.

I've never finished the game back on ps2 so I got it again on steam to finish it with a friend.
It's not a bad game but I can only recommend this one if you have nostalgia or you are a heavy old school survival horror enjoyer.
Even coop is not funny, it's frustrating in the beginning, then you understand how to abuse a couple of mechanics and becomes too easy and in both cases is not funny.
I'm not trying to hate on an old game of my childhood, I just want you to know that imo it's not worth to get full price

Pure childhood nostalgia.
The cheesy American B-horror premise with the janky controls. With a surprisingly well rounded story and an impressive mechanics of having multiple playable characters with each having their own strengths and moments makes it a bit more well rounded and though out survival horror game.
Obscure is a homage to the early Resident Evil-esque survival horror trope but with its own twist. I loved it back then as a teen and re-playing now after 20 years I feel that I love it even more.

I played obscure on first xbox back in the day and I swear this game was ahead of its time. There will never be another game like Obsure. I bought it purely for nostalgia reasons and plan on replaying it as a full grown adult to get all the feels again!
