Nice, stylized, and pretty fun. Short experience, but I felt like I got my moneys worth and with the fun I got from it. Those who really enjoy On-Rails Shooter games, might enjoy this one. It goes from mostly On-Rails to Open Flight in several spots. There is some replay value if one really likes to replay levels to get a higher score and grade.

Could not figure out controls. Secondary charge used to break barriers does not work on controller for me. Lame to require a 2 button combination to execute it.

Lock onto multiple enemies by holding A and right trigger twice. Attack bosses by using other skills. I like that when you press the pause button, all of your moves are there to remind you what to do. Very colorful. Love the dolphin boss flying around the neon city. Free mode gives this game a big jump in purchasability since in free mode you can start off by playing any map. Liquid Space is an absolute marvel, leaving me utterly blown away by its narrative prowess. Without delving into specifics, the storyline unfolds like a celestial ballet, weaving an intricate tapestry of mystery and intrigue that had me on the edge of my seat throughout. The sheer depth of the narrative, coupled with unexpected twists and turns, evoked a sense of awe and wonder rarely experienced in gaming. The emotional resonance of the characters and the enigmatic universe they inhabit left me captivated, yearning for more with each passing revelation. Liquid Space isn't just a game; it's a testament to the power of storytelling in the gaming medium, a cosmic journey that has left an indelible mark on my gaming experience. I am, without a doubt, profoundly blown away by the narrative brilliance encapsulated in this extraordinary title.

Good, not great. Worth the price. The game holds potential but overall it's in my oppinion still a work-in-progress... at least it should be. Since the steam page mentions nothing about early access, I would not hold my breath for major improvements though. Liquid Space is heavily inspired by Star Fox (in my opinion mostly Star Fox 64). Instead of being a one to one recreation of those games and their mechanics it adds neat elements on top. Weapon charging is a major factor in how you play Liquid Space. Next to your basic blaster you are given three different charge shots. A precise and penetrating long distance rifle shot, a spread out short distance shotgun burst shot and a 4x missile lock-on. It is relatively easy to spontaneously swap between them and utilise each for different situations. The shotgun burst is good for downing small enemy groups that are about to fly past you, focusing on this weapon leads to quick and hectic flying action that feels very satisfying in seeing dozens of enemies being wiped out in short succession. The rifle shot is great for sniping big and bulky units from far away and occasionally comes in handy to destroy barriers. It is slower to use but ends up being a great mixup that offers a short breather from the else often chaotic flying. I used the missiles less often, but they kinda bridge the two other charge shots. It takes a bit to get them prepared so they are not super fast paced, but they act as a diverse tool that can be effective against more spread out enemy groups than the relatively compact burst shot. Combined with a very agile ship that has the option to drift - basically instantly turn around in 360° combat or shift from one end of the screen to the other in on-rails mode - this game can be super fun to get good at. All in all the core concept is good, but the execution has issues. The first thing I have to mentions is the feedback. Coming from Star Fox 1 or 64 or Zero I am spoiled by games that have very clear and crisp feedback on what's going on. Being shot at, being hit, locking on to enemies, hitting them, hitting ground, how far away you are from obstacles, which mode you are in, how fast you are flying. Liquid Space to me often felt very muted, as if I was playing with shades, mufflers and gloves. Music was blaring and stuff happened, but I did not feel connected to it. I regret not being able to phrase this better, but this is the part where I feel like this is early access. It's missing the juice! Other than that I feel like the levels are very hit and miss. The tutorial and first levels are very easy, bordering on bland. I would suggest to stick with it until you reach the green acid planet, here I felt like the game gets it right. Exciting level design and a good challenge. The following level ramps it up a bit and has a few tough spots that in my opinion demand a bit too much from players who were not really forced or incentivized to engage with the drift mechanic up until that point. This culminates in a boss fight that got too frustrating for me and ended my first session there. Overall if the bulk of the game felt as engaging as these two later stages, I might be looking forward to starting this game up again. It is afterall a score hunter. But as it stands I'm not terribly excited to try those early stages again. Still, I draw a positive conclusion. Not the least because I am very interested in the Star Fox fan scene and most competitors get not just the juice and level design wrong but often even the basics like aiming, shooting and flying. In that regard Liquid Space is very competent and deserving of attention.

Vaporwave Starfox 64 with a sniper rifle. I'm happy with what I have seen thus far; the dev added a lot of neat mechanics. The drift+sniper shot feels fantastic; the physics in general are well done. Music is solid, and the story works well with the rest of the aesthetic/gameplay. Few minor bugs/polish issues, but that might be Linux related (I ran it with Proton on Ubuntu). I'll update when I finish it.
