If I had to be really generous, Yars Rising is like some form of "Kid Icarus Uprising style "reboot"" where some obscure ass retro game gets an anime action game where you get a mix of different gameplays put together, with a slight Mega Man style jump and shooting in a Metroid Fusion feeling map. And that's a really generous impression of the game so far as I am really enjoying and appreciating the game for what it is, which is more like a licensed indie game (which WayForward is known for working on, and mileage may vary), and the budget probably shows that. The description I gave to it is like... somewhat 50% accurate at least. I would just love for more games like these to exist, more "Uprising" attempts please

This is not a bad game per se, but it is a complete ripoff given its price. For that price I expected to find a large, intricate metroidvania with hundreds of secrets and multiple complex items to gradually unfold. What I got instead was a short and casual metroidvania with rather dull and repetitive who-can-mash-faster gameplay that poses little challenge. It took me less than 10 hours to 100% it first time, and a sizeable part of those 10 hours were wasted due to the ubiquitous loading screens (see below) and having to walk around the map a lot on foot due to the bad fast travel system. There was probably 5-6 hours of actual gameplay. For what it is, it should have been priced at least three, and possible four, times less. What else can I say. - It looks pretty. - It runs very smooth even on such potato laptop as mine. - It is incredibly frustrating to play because each time you go from room to room, there is a 5 second loading screen. That is, every 10 seconds there is a 5 seconds loading screen. - It has a "pro" mode that opens after you beat it once. It that pro mode you take three times more damage (which is fine) and your map becomes useless (which is not).

This game is great because it doesn't take itself too seriously, but it adds some cute lore and a fun backstory to the classic "Yar's Revenge." My favorite part is the mini hacking games, which are essentially a remix of Atari and classic arcade titles from Missile Command to Centipede and of course, Yar's Revenge. And as you unlock them, you can replay them all from the title screen. Definitely worth playing, especially for fans of the Atari era!

A decent metroidvania. The budget really shows in the game for its visuals. Pros: cute MC. amazing OST. looks amazing. Cons: The frequent loading screens while traveling to another zone/rooms. Saving feels like it's forever. Short game despite being on a higher price.

Fun, well-made metroidvania with a superb soundtrack, and some great shoutouts to Atari fandom. Though, a weirdly huge amount of loading screens for a game of today. Also, feel like fast travel could have been handled a bit better in the late game.

Probably the best of the new Atari games. Atari, keep working with Wayforward!

Pretty fun setting. Nice voice acting, decent graphics, not too hard. Not much fun on the hacks, especially the last one. Recomanded!
