Fun, sweet and short. Loved the way to get the "good ending"

"What if chess, but with weird rules you learn about as you break them one by one?" The game itself is fun, but it also has meta-lessons to teach about game design and what strategies and hueristics grow out of simple rules. For example: pawns move and capture a little differently than in real chess, and this leads to the basic board-control dynamics being quite different than normal chess. Almost every other piece also has some kind of twist to it that also informs "chess, but different" strategies, but I won't spoil those. This is very short, but IMO it doesn't need to be longer. (Though I can easily imagine a $20 game where you fight successive opponents that each put different twists on the rules, or that change the rules of different classic board games...I bet you that's crossed the dev's mind too!) Personally, I would NOT recommend trying to go completionist on this, but even just looking up the achievements afterwards is fun and will illuminate other little things about the game. As a little piece of "gaming micro-fiction", I wish there were more games like this.

great game, the only problem would be that there's no multiplayer

I loved playing every minute of this game It takes a game that most people have played before and throws all the rules in a blender and makes you re-learn them You are immediately confronted with the theme of the game if you try to move an opening pawn two squares (Because it's against the rules) Overall masterfully crafted and it honestly makes me a little sad the game isn't longer. Highly recommend buying, ESPECIALLY for the price point. The game is dirt cheap and absolutely worth the price tag

Wonderful grab for the price, even off sale! I enjoyed this game greatly, it was a ton of fun going for 100%! If you like it I'd recommend using https://kotbm.glitch.me (it's a tool to help you play with a physical board, not a full fledged game remake) to play this style of chess against your friends >:)

Very engaging, bite-sized puzzle game that plays with your expectations of basic chess rules.

tl;dr first victory took 30 minutes, if that's worth to you buy it. I don't mind $3 for challenging wonky chess game, difficulty isn't anything crazy. For the general chess practitioner, took me 100 minutes to win 3 times (I found 2 endings, if there are more it's not very straightforward or you have to work for it and they don't tell you), achievements are a little wonky as I have done something a few times but didn't actually get it until the 3rd time I did it, at least I had thought, definitely did get an achievement for doing something during a specific act. If you want to achievement hunt, or find all the quirks, you can get more time out of this, but for me there is no incentive to.

The game is actually really good but you need to study the rules and really have good understanding unlike me ;)

A game that takes chess and completely overhauls its rules. The fun comes from learning these new rules and keeping an eye on your opponent to see if they’re cheating. Despite the changes, the rules are surprisingly easy to grasp. The game is short, but its wacky, unpredictable nature makes for a fun and entertaining experience.
