As a ninja gaiden newbie who just played through 1-3 then yaiba, I've gotta say, yaiba is my favorite. It's certainly a different tone from the other games, and very different gameplay, but I think that's why I liked it. Easier to "pick up" than the mainline games.
It's pretty short, and the fixed camera awful, but everything else is great.
It doesn't take itself too seriously. It knows what it is & embraces it.
Definitely grab it if you can get it on sale.

A game where it starts out actually really fun before you slowly realise how boring things get when every stage lasts an hour and is of consistently mediocre spectacle. It's also absurdly of its time and combines basically every early 2010s trend into a single game. Zombies, dark and gritty, reboot, trying too hard to be cool and also for some reason being oddly unpolished and buggy. It has it all. It is the most painfully average character action game ever but I'd rather play it than not. I'm not a Ninja Gaiden fan so I don't know if this is controversial to feel or not, but I think this game is kind of overhated. It's not a dump of a game or a masterpiece, it's Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, the most painfully average and of its time video game ever made. If you have nothing else to do and need to pass time, this should do it.
