Ticket to Ride® on Steam is a faithful and engaging digital adaptation of the immensely popular board game that has captivated casual and strategy gamers alike since its physical release. Developed by Days of Wonder, this version retains the charm, simplicity, and strategic depth of the original while adding conveniences and polish that enhance the overall experience. The game invites players to compete in building railway networks across various maps, connecting cities and completing secret routes to earn points. Its accessible gameplay, combined with layers of tactical decision-making, makes it a perfect fit for both newcomers and veterans of board gaming. At its heart, Ticket to Ride® thrives on its straightforward yet clever mechanics. Players draw colored train cards and use them to claim railway routes between cities on the map, racing against opponents to complete their destination tickets before others can block or outmaneuver them. This simplicity allows players to quickly grasp the rules and start playing, while the strategic considerations involved in route planning, card management, and timing keep each game fresh and engaging. The balance between luck and skill is well-calibrated, with card draws introducing an element of chance that keeps games unpredictable but not unfair. The tension created when multiple players vie for the same critical routes adds a thrilling competitive edge. One of the major strengths of the Steam version is how it leverages the digital format to streamline setup, scoring, and turn management. The interface is clean and intuitive, making it easy to track your progress, view opponents’ moves, and plan your next steps without the hassle of manual bookkeeping. Animations and sound effects add to the atmosphere, with trains chugging along tracks and subtle audio cues enhancing the tactile satisfaction of placing pieces. The game also offers various difficulty levels, AI personalities, and an array of maps beyond the classic North American layout, including Europe, Asia, and other thematic variations, each bringing unique rules and strategic twists. Multiplayer is a standout feature in Ticket to Ride® on Steam. Whether playing locally with friends, online with strangers, or against AI opponents, the game runs smoothly and offers a well-matched, enjoyable experience. The online matchmaking is robust, and the inclusion of private lobbies and cross-platform play increases accessibility. The asynchronous mode is particularly convenient, allowing players to take their turns at their own pace, which is perfect for busy schedules or long-distance play. Community features like leaderboards and achievements provide additional motivation and replay value. While the game excels in many areas, it’s worth noting that the digital adaptation may feel limited for players seeking a more immersive or visually complex experience. The focus remains squarely on the strategic board game mechanics, with minimal narrative or character-driven elements. Additionally, some players might find the repetition of core gameplay over multiple sessions somewhat predictable, though this is a natural consequence of the game’s design rather than a flaw. The expansions and alternative maps do help mitigate this by introducing new challenges and variations, keeping the gameplay dynamic. In terms of accessibility, Ticket to Ride® scores highly. Its straightforward rules, helpful tutorials, and clear UI lower the barrier to entry, making it an excellent choice for players new to digital board games or those looking for a relaxing yet strategic pastime. The game’s pace can be leisurely or brisk depending on player choices, catering to different playstyles and social settings. It strikes a fine balance between casual fun and meaningful strategic depth, ensuring it remains engaging over repeated plays. In conclusion, Ticket to Ride® on Steam is a meticulously crafted digital board game adaptation that successfully captures the essence of its physical counterpart while adding modern conveniences and a range of options for diverse players. Its blend of simple rules, strategic depth, and multiplayer flexibility make it a must-have for board game enthusiasts and casual gamers alike. Whether you are competing to build the longest railway or simply enjoying a relaxed game with friends, Ticket to Ride® offers a timeless, enjoyable experience that remains as fresh and compelling today as it was when it first launched. The game will place you in the 3rd or 4th starting position 85% of the time. AI players will play to "block" your routs even when they are not near their own destinations , and to their own detriment. Played for about 94 hours and find the tickets you start with are predictable according to the position you start in, nothing random about it.

It's hard not to look at this as a cash grab. The original Ticket to Ride on Steam worked perfectly fine. The fact that we weren't offered this for free if we owned the original put me off buying it for a long time. That and the negative reviews concerning its UI and bug issues. All that aside, this is a better version of the game. I haven't experienced any UI issues or game breaking bugs. The graphics are better, the music is better, there are more expansions available via DLC and they are all implemented very well. The achievements for this game are also way more fun to work towards and actually achievable. Fancy that. If you're a fan of board games, and you didn't own the original Steam version, this is an easy buy. It's one of my favorite board games of all time, and this is a solid implementation of it.

I love this implementation to Ticket to Ride. I've played nearly 100 games since April. I am now attempting all of the achievements. What I would REALLY love is for Ticket to Ride Legacy to be available on Steam. The people I play with are more interested in heavier board games so I am unlikely to be able to play it in person. Please make the Legacy version available on Steam.

Would it have been preferable if the publisher didn't sell the rights to a different developer? Sure, I loved the previous game and I still have it installed. But this is a worthy addition to the Ticket to Ride digital lineup. The gameplay is true to the board game and the UI is easy to understand and use. Do I love having to buy a whole new set of DLC maps? No, but I'm a working adult, and I have a budget that includes entertainment, and this game has proven to be worth the money. They've already released several maps that had not been digitized before (Japan, San Francisco, Heart of Africa) with the promise of plenty more to come. I only play solo against the computer, but I've seen some reported issues with the online multiplayer. But the developers seem engaged and responsive, so issues seem to be investigated and fixed in a timely manner. There are lots of hard feelings towards the publisher that have been taken out on this developer, but that's really not warranted. This is a very solid game and likely to get even better.

The classic version was so much better. true to the board game. this version is a shameless money grab. they only start you with 4 female characters and 2 males. the males are so outlandishly bad is seems they want you to purchase some of the others. it should have been balanced. I see others like it and if they do that's good for them but as an original player of the board game and the classic version of the video game, which people payed for and cant play now online, it seems like a cheap knock off that EA would do with tons of micro transactions, which I am not about. asked for a refund. not sure if I will get it. only 6 bucks but still not worth it. none of my player group will be buying this. we would rather meet in person and play.
