I'd say this is a perfectly good modern take on the Carmen Sandiego franchise. I have been enjoying it so far, I like that it also has "unsolved" cases to try with a retro feel that are a little more streamlined if you want to just solve logic and puzzles. The 3D cut scenes and animations are well done. While i wish there was more voice acting, the way they handle it is effective. My only feedback for devs is to fix the mouse point-and-click navigation for on-foot levels. Additionally, I do wish levels had more "find the item" feel to them when it came to the point and click levels. the very obvious cues are OK, but I wish there was more to discover. Little easter eggs or facts apart from world knowledge.

Let's get one thing straight, i LOVED Carmen Sandiego games as a kid, but this, wow, its got some beautiful level design within the game but it's utterly squandered. I also can't co-sign Carmen being the lead - Carmen is always the enigmatic villain who drives the game forward in a way for us to be compelled to catch her, with that reversed, the game just loses its exciting bite. As such the game just feels a bit aimless and childlike Otherwise, the gameplay is a serious issue. Some of the puzzles are akin to untying christmas lights and its infuriating and boring, there are many other small puzzles but it becomes abundantly clear very quickly that the game is chaperoning you into the same old same old routine. Puzzles and hints become samey and articulate airport codes and flag details, while old Carmen games went deep with 'Her eyes were the color of lapis' - as a kid, that required you to really figure it out, whereas now its like 'her eyes were the color of the sky' - you can see how the simplification hurts. In all, ive always had a soft spot for this franchise, but i feel dissapointed in how the Netflix re-invention has poisoned the well of the Broderbund IP games because they were really excellent.
